    Upon Reflection

Hello, it has been quite a long time since I've posted anything here... Mostly due to me losing a spark to write these stories, and also me writing world building and backstory things for the Queens of the Hives.

Chipping away the blocks and More on Changelings

So, I wanted to put this out there so that all of you would be told, but I am finally passed this accursed block and am ready to start writing once again. Though I still have a bit of school work to attend to as well, so probably won't be as free as I would like. I'm hoping to get the next chapter of Hives finished before the end of the year, and with any luck I can probably manage that and

So.............. There has been like... No content flow. And I am sorry for that, but I'm still having trouble writing the stories... :ajsleepy: I just don't know what it is... But... I just can't seem to focus on my stories recently... It sucks. :ajbemused: So I've been devoting time to both Editing and character for the additional Queens... New Project: Hive Searching · 4:57pm Apr 6th, 2016

Hello everyone! I decided to start something new. A little bit of a... Side project to help me out a bit. I've been hit by a small case of the Writer's Block and because I'm out of ideas for everything else. Time for world building! :yay:
If you guys remember, I made mention of a possible continuation to 'Converted' that included the Hive Queens meeting with Celestia. Well, here is the payoff!
The story will go into details about the various Hives of Equestria, by going through a single day with them through the eyes of a pony  <-- This one to be precise It will be a small world building story while I work out the kinks with the other stories and figure out what to do with them.
For this story, I plan to go into detail on the various facets of each Hive's structure and importance within Equestria as well as explanations for why some Hives do certain things. The story will begin with each of the normal Hive Queens of Equestria and may branch off into the other Lands beyond.
What I'm saying is: "You like Changelings? Well we GOT Changelings!" :yay:

Hey! You can use my Shadow Hive and it's king Zulu! Let me know if you are going to use them!

3853559
hmm... Maybe... Could be one of those ones in the Minotaur lands. :raritywink:
Who knows, may even by the first Changeling High King... I may need to modify a couple of small things if I do use them, but I can certainly try to include it.
If anyone else has ideas, I still need a few for the Minotaurs and Griffons, or you could give ones for other lands I'm probably forgetting (YakYakistan, Saddle Arabia, etc.)

3853818 You know what I simply cannot avoid your challenge. I shall create a Changeling Queen for you almighty Queen Shaded Changeling. So I present to you Queen KARO-MANA of ANUGYPT.

First of all you may be wondering where in the world did Anugypt come from… Well it actually appeared in MLP: FIM Comic #24 where Discord took the cutie mark crusaders and Fluttershy into the past to an ancient Egyptian country.

vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/ponyidw/images/c/c8/MLP_IDW_Issue_24_Cats.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20141015233723

But how does this relate to the Queen and of course her Hive. Well lets get into that.

Queen Karo-Mana was initially a younger changeling named Keelina (meaning strong-willed and caring) who was kicked out of her Hive when she was found to be plotting against her own Queen (you can use that empire as another one like the Griffon one and just make the banishing of the younger princess a small section of their history as they would not think much of it while of course Keelina and her changeling’s still hold a heavy grudge. :twilightangry2:

Anyway the reason why she was plotting was because she wanted to make a unified changeling army, where all hives would join under a single rule or at the very least each Hive would be accountable to the next and push for open trade of love. Obviously such a radical push was stepped aside up until the point where queen Keelina was persuaded by changelings close to her to form an army to take on her queen in which she lost. (Good luck beating your own queen while trying to recruit from her own citizens). :facehoof: Weather these changelings close to her were really after the throne themselves or really just under the effect of wishful thinking, or maybe even simply getting inspiration from Keelina's unconscious spirit and energy in this area is up to you. Still she managed to get a good percentage of the Hive to join and consequentially they were all banished from the Hive into the deserted lands. (This is like this side of the globes BadLands where love is all but impossible to find).

Many of her fellow Changeling’s died on the quest through the deserted lands and just when they started losing hope the Cat Empire lead by Baast (the main cat of the comic) saved them despite the fact that they were undisguised changeling’s. (this story is set after the cats victory against the dogs at the end of Comic #24). The Anugyptian empire is one far away from all other empires and is known to act on its own without any outside assistance (mainly because no other nation wants to journey to it even if they managed to discover its existence).

Queen Keelina renamed herself Karo-Mana (which means an Egyptian queen) to express not only her gratitude towards the cats and the love they shared with them but also to spite those who threw her away. This was a turning point in her life when she took on board the cats ways and decided that isolationism is the best policy compared to her past wishes of a connected Changeling Empire. Who knows what the world could have ended up as if she got her ways. Possibly not good for Equestrians but who knows what all the Hives would have accomplished if they worked together or if they would have tumbled together from such an almighty empire. Anyway enough speculation. :ajsmug:

As the years went on Baast would perish after many a victory against their dog aggressors to the point where they would flee into the caves and join with others of their species in becoming petty Diamond Dogs. :derpytongue2: Soon her changeling’s become Royalty in the Cats eyes and Karo-Mana became queen of Anugypt. Whenever the rare event of travellers came by or diplomatic discussions were required the changeling’s would still disguise as cats to keep the changeling name a secret.

However there constant inhaling of love from their fellow cat subjects contributed to the cats decline over the years. With their constant policies of isolationism the empire fell behind many others not due to a lack of intelligence but simply due to a lack of minds that come from different backgrounds thinking differently. After some time the lack of resources and communion with other empires led to the Cats extinction as a race. :fluttercry: Without them the Changeling’s have lost their only food supply and now in the current day must decide on how they will ensure their survival.

So that is where they are up to in terms of their society at the point of your Novel. However I do also want to add in a few points of clarity to help you understand Queen Karo-Mana and her changeling’s a little better.

Firstly their Isolated policies make them a breed of Changeling’s that favour individualism and working without help. A system a little different then the squad make-up of Pen Pals Chrysalis's Hive.

In fact going on from Chrysalis's Pen Pals Hive queen Karo-Mana also loves her artists to death and puts their creative works up for display as often as she can. Something that comes from living in an Egyptian world.

Karo-Mana also has a deep distrust towards other Hives, not that she wants to attack them (that would go against her isolationist policies) but she simply prefers to snarl and move on. A trait that her changeling’s follow.

In terms of other species she thinks of them as food like most other changeling nations although she did have a soft spot for the cats and now feels like a failure for what she believes is being responsible for their extinction. She does wish to make this up to the natural world before she dies.

An interesting fact about this Anugypt hive is that changeling’s within it actually love the sun and relish it compared to mos other hives who hide in caves underground. Anugypt changeling's are also skilful flyers as their wings have hardened in the dusty outdoor environment and they are used to travelling far distances to collect resources for the cat brethren. Their magical prowess is a little on the week side however due to the desert conditions that do not give way for exciting magical events very often. Their endurance and Stamina is high but their physical strength is usually on the low end their changeling transformation abilities are sound (as natural to changeling’s) but can easily be outdone by a troop of Chrysalis's.

In terms of Personality queen Karo-Mana is imaginative and quick-witted however she holds back on her true feelings and can come across as someone who believes the world is a harsh and deadly place. However behind that mask her caring nature from her filly years and her joyful friendship with the cats can sometimes come out especially when things are going her way. Never mention the Cats or another changeling hive especially the one that kicked her out however or she will get angry. If somepony or changeling can get past her mental barriers however her belief in a unified changeling empire or unification against isolationism is still there but simply buried deep inside. Some of changeling’s also worry about her and her tendency to block the world out as well but none are willing to question her about such a serious topic.

With that tall said I think I am done. So there you have queen Karo-Mana of the Anugyptian changeling’s. Please use them if you wish and feel free to change them up in terms of history or present state or not use them at all if you want. I just want to be helpful in any way that I can. :pinkiehappy:

Everything written above is now your work and you are free to do whatever you wish with this information.

Good Luck with all of your plans Cadence

Your Faithful Pen Pal
Spinnekop

P.S here is Karo-Mana's cat disguise:

P.P.S Sorry for the really extended comment but I just thought the more info the merrier to help you along your path to greatness. I have also always wanted to see the Anugypt empire represented in a FimFic for some reason so I guess I just jumped at the chance. I hope it helps even if you do not end up using it for anything. :twilightsheepish:

3853818 Ok! Well my changelings can't disguise themselves like the other hives, but they make up for that by having to ability to become living shadows. They have unique weapons that they use to defend themselves. My king is friendly and very observant in what happens in the world. He has a very large spy network in every nation in the world, but he doesn't do much with it but to observe and record important events for the history records. His hive has the oldest records of history books than all of the other nations, they even have records of history that other nations lossed during the discord era. Also I don't mind where my hive will be in the world, I just want them to be somewhere interesting to be in. If you want more information you can look at my group based on my hive.

Pondering
Hmmm.... I actually forgot all about Anugypt... :applejackunsure:

On the topic of the Hive, I like to keep all of them (At least somewhat) based off a territory. I kind of fitted Equestria and Prance together in this respect, as I never really felt they were too far off. I suppose I could make a subsection for the Saddle Arabian area.... Hmmm....

Anyway! I do actually enjoy the idea behind this Hive, the whole "Banished princess becomes Queen" idea is a rather interesting one, specifically based around these Changelings that hold Daughters so close (Or far in Chrysalis' sake). I can certainly see something like this arising from the Saddle Arabian Hives. What with all the dessert and stuff around them, it is practically a barren wasteland for them.

I do enjoy the idea behind them surviving off of Isolation and with the help of the cats, though history wise... There in lies the problem...
I do have a sort of, expected life span for Queens within "Converted" (Pen Pals runs off different rules), I may need to look at that comic again when the internet allows me, but they definitely aren't Alicorn levels of age repression, if it is over about 1000 years ago, I may have to tweak their history just a bit.
Though I can certainly see her hive having changed to not only worship, but utilize the sun... Hmmm Perhaps scarabs...
I certainly do appreciate the detail you put into the history of her Hive, it saves me the time of figuring everything out :twilightsheepish: And I will certainly try not to disappoint you, and if I cannot manage to fit it in anywhere, I will certainly make it a tale or history piece of the Changeling culture.

And don't worry about Long Comments, I don't mind.

Glad to hear from you again Spindle,
Cadence

P.S: I like the idea of Anubis becoming Diamond dogs

3854429 I am glad I could be of some assistance almighty Shaded Changeling.

That being said though I do believe that I am quite a bit out of the loop especially in terms of the Converted with stuff like changeling queen age and so on. Apologies. :fluttershysad:

However I shall rectify it now by of course getting through the entirety of the Converted. This will however take approximately a week though as I really do not want to rush the work of such an inspirational artist (You already have the first chapter of this new story out! You are so quick.). So if you notice that I have magically disappeared from the face of the globe just know that I am deep into your awesome stories and that I promise to return with a hopefully accurate diagnosis of the Converted as well.

Now I am just going to go and respond to each of your previous comments paragraphs one by one (I usually respond like that).

First of all I have to work out what map you are using. (I will probably work it out during my reading of Converted), because there are so many fan made maps and then of course there is the 'Legit' one that I dislike due to its Americanisation. (I do not know, it just disturbs me when I look at that one, never did like it). :ajbemused:

Yeah woops totally missed out on the queen age thing… silly me. Nevertheless you can always do a descendant of Karo-Mana or knowing you I am sure you can work something out, but I really hope I am not sounding like someone who is going nuts over your implementation of my characters. I only wish for the story to be as great as it can be and thought I could help out with some food for thought at least. And yeah you totally got the whole royal scarab idea of why Anugyptians would honour a creature like a changeling.

Anyway glad that my overly long comments are to your liking my liege and as always keep up the brilliant work, but please do not over-channel yourself.

Until our paths cross again Cadence,
(I could always refer to you as my Queen or something else if you wish).

Your pal with a Pen
Spin.

P.S Nice to know you are deep with the fiction, I avoided the term Anubis in fear that it would have gone over your head. I really should have known… Bad me bad. :facehoof:
