They really do.
Okay, okay, I won't be biased and say that some admins are actually pretty good. Knighty, while making some questionable design choices, is a very nice man once you get to know him. He actually streams with his friends sometimes and he seems like a pretty cool dude. However, I'm not talking about the good admins. No, I'm talking about THOSE admins.
Yeah, you know the ones. The ones that follow every rule and hound you to find any possible way to tell you that you're breaking them. The ones that delete some of your content for no goddamn reason. The ones that honestly can't be trusted enough to hold a fork.
Those ones.
I know why admins exist. They exist to keep peace and order in certain websites and prevent them from becoming a cluster-fuck of trolls and hackers. This should be a job given to reliable people; people you know won't fuck it up. When given to the wrong people however, you instead have a fake god. Yeah, don't lie to yourself; that's what they are. Because they have unimaginable power over you and me, the puny mortals, they can do whatever the fuck they want. Steal, lie, cheat, ban for no reason, delete for no reason, and just generally be a dick. But you know what the absolute worst part about them is?
They almost never pay for their actions.
Because they're admins, they can get away with murder and the higher-ups wouldn't care! I've seen it happen again and again, site after site. But then we go into the LAZY admins, like the ones over at deviantART. Not only is deviantART overflowing with art thieves, but the admins over there have done jack-shit.
But yeah, admins suck.

The worst part is we almost never know who the bad admins are, and short of them advertising their level of incompetence or jerk level we never really will.

I'll give you three guesses.
I don't think I've ever seen anypony banned for complaining about the admins.
Threatening? Yes.
Violating the multi account thing? Yes.
Sure, there are heavy handed admins, ones that really do need a bit of self policing from their fellows, imo.
But in the end, the admins here average out to pretty decent.
I'm also willing to bet that the problem admins do receive repercussions, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean they didn't get a warning or some of their powers revoked. There's just no reason for the offender to admit a slap on the wrist or reprimand.
Also, it's just bad policy to publicly advertise an admin getting in trouble. Think of the chain reaction of complaints that would suddenly come in against an admin (even for stuff they didn't do, probably, and don't forget imagined slights as well) once everypony had a name to attach their pain to.
I'm not arguing that sometimes things aren't just... eh. But there are sites with much, much worse problems.
