Mad Inspirations for part one of Frozen Shadows · 7:13am Feb 10th, 2016
(WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ FROZEN SHADOWS, PART ONE, DO THAT FIRST, THEN COME BACK AND READ THIS!)
(This is where I geek out about my own story, quote parts and tell you what part of my demented brain they came from.)
1. "a teapot near to boiling on a makeshift stove (i.e. a bunsen burner)" i.e. a nod to every nerd scientist out there that's ever done this. There's probably a helluva lot more of them in the U.K. than in the colonies, but with the amount of transplants from across the pond by now, Who knows?
2. “’It's always 'dutch' with you! One day I'm going to get a Doctor who is gallant and treats me for once!’
He followed in after her. ‘I'm afraid you're about two faces too late for that, mi'dear.’" - a nod to my favorite Doctor, Number Eight.
3. "'Goodness me! Wake up on the wrong side of the time-space continuum, did we, Missy?'" I tried REALLY HARD not to think of the Master's new, urm, gender-switched regeneration at this point and the fact she calls herself "Missy" and utterly failed, but at least I had the willpower to NOT change the endearment and "Missy" stuck.
4. "He scratched his mane, mussing its up even further than it already was." It occurred to me AFTER the beautiful cover by Pixel_Spark was done that her Doctor's coiffeur was WAAAYYY too tame to be THIS Doctor's, but I was going to be damned at that point if I was going to ask her to edit a single pixel of her beautiful creation!
5. "Her eyes were all and completely black, with no discernible features such as an iris or cornea." This is only, well, my THIRD character in as many genres that has completely black eyes. I think I was traumatized by the end of the t.v. movie, "The Stepford Wives" when I was a child. Or enchanted by it. Take your pick.
And according to tvtropes entry on "Black Eyes of Evil", "Presumably this perfect blackness indicates the purity of the evil within them and their total lack of humanity. Even if a person's eyes are weirdly colored, there is still a possibility of human connection, but if his/her eyes are gaping wells of nothingness..."
"gaping wells of nothingness" I like that. So does King Sombra. He's gonna find it a turn on in Nyx, believe me!

6. “The Crystal Empire had no Queen,” the Sun Princess said assuredly. “and King Sombra no wife..." Hmmm...maybe that's why he was angry all the time? (not a mad inspiration, but if you were a stallion and were him, you’d be MAD too. Think about it.)
7. "'He was only slightly worse than the worst stallion the Marazons ever swore off their company for.'” If this doesn't tell you who the Marazons are patterned after, go get a book on Greek mythology or at the worst, go look up a Wonder Woman comic and check out her people's name and history...
8. "It was, of course, Princess Celestia who spoke for both of them." BITCH. Why don't you ever let your sister hand down some big pronouncements?!? Of course, this would have been a REALLY BAD TIME to start doing that, but hey, for the next poor saps who's lives you ruin, why don't you throw LUNA under the bus for once?
9. “'Those who were not there have no right to judge what was committed or not committed, without witnesses, your Highness,” the Marazon said, fighting to keep her voice even. “The crystal field allowed none egress to the area without His permissions. How can thy know what truly went on? And how can He repent or learn to become a better ruler whilst frozen under the ice flows of Northern Equestria 'till the end of time?'” Actually I want to ask this of the t.v. series Celestia. You got any answers for me, bitch?!? Well? Your subjects are waiting...
10. “'Cannot assist, or will not, Princess Celestia? You have not the power to send the King of Shadows to such a fate and I believe You did not do so!'” A nod to Silly Filly Studio's awesometastic video, "Fall of the Crystal Empire".
Heads up, peeps, the stupid Elements of Harmony didn't work on King Sombra and neither did Celestia's goodie two shoes magic. Only DARK, MAGIC could banish his ass!
11. "'Please, Dear Mother?'" An affectionate nod to the beautiful video, "Children of the Night" where Princess Luna whisks away orphaned children for a secret, magical flight through the skies above Equestria.
12. " – an enormous, wickedly curved death scythe of red copper." Another nod to Fall of the Crystal Empire, but this time, to the first cut teaser where King Sombra's scythe was NOT the one the final version showed. Instead, it was this –

Don't worry about that fatal blow as Celestia drove the full blade of her deadly sun pike into his chest. You can't kill a Shadow. After looking first surprised, then annoyed, he just laughed the most deliciously wicked and evil laugh as he kept her from pulling it back out without a fight! (OMG, I freakin' LOVE his sense of humor!!!)
Well, that’s all for now. Now off to start the final scene of the first part of part two…urg… *head spinning!* Yes, it’s confusing, but hey, that’s time-frickin’ travel for ya!
