Curious Review #1 – Rainbow Dash Doesn't Know What Hooves Are · 2:52pm Jan 23rd, 2016

I'm just writing this because someone I follow requested reviews for some of their stories. I don't have any plans to do future reviews, but I figure if I do, they'll probably spawn out of some curiosity for an oddball fic. This is one of them.

Rainbow Dash Doesn't Know What Hooves Are
by Present Perfect

Comedy, Equestria Girls, Random
1,490 words

It's true: Just as her equine counterpart doesn't know about hands, human Rainbow Dash doesn't know about hooves. After an accident in the art room, Sunset Shimmer is going to find out just how deep Rainbow's ignorance goes...

Reading something like this with the intent of approaching it like I used to when reviewing journal articles in Bachelors school proved to be, as expected, futile. So instead, I enjoyed myself.

As the descript makes clear, human Rainbow Dash is clueless when it comes to the squishy-looking appendages of our favorite little ponies. So after she rescues human Sunset from a human disaster, namely from climbing a haphazardly-installed shelving unit full of paint supplies, Sunset expresses her thanks with a metaphor:

"I'm glad I can count on you to pull my tail out of the fire!"

Dash's response, while still holding Sunset in her arms no less?

"You don't have a tail," Rainbow said, looking at her expectantly.

Hmm, wonder what she's expecting... :rainbowhuh:

As far as the story itself goes, the structure is sound, the flow is smooth, the narrator wraps their arm around Dash's to frolic through the content with relatable glee, and it gets its intended job of instilling a smirk done at the end of its travel (provided that was the intended goal). It's short too, so the author doesn't flounder around trying to accomplish the job. The story also fits the 'Random' tag snugly: it's a short little one-shot exemplifying Dash's demeanor when handling a matter she's unfamiliar with. Plus a tease at some obligatory EQG fan-service entertaining filler.

I feel it worth mentioning as well without spoiling the end that pony Rainbow Dash decides to pop a visit through the portal, if only so I can point out one simple quote human Dash later makes:

"Yep, yep, yep."

The way I heard it in my mind?

That was my takeaway from this fic. I will reread this one day again, if only to imagine Rainbow Dash with Ducky's voice.

>>| Decent. Worth reading if you like silly nonsense, rather than stupid.

I thank you! :D And you should definitely consider doing more reviews (of others' stories, you don't have to stick with mine); this is a good format for a fic-a-journal review!
