Xepher

I don't write, so much as I perform acts of high-wire fiction without a net. Come watch me fall! I believe in narrative coincidence, the transcendent power of hopeful creativity, and the Oxford Comma.

Everfree Northwest 2016 and Scribblefest! · 1:54pm Jan 19th, 2016

So, who's going to Evefree this year? I'm the writing track lead again, and I want to get people involved early this year. So, if you're going and think you might want to be more involved... or just want to know more, let me know!

Also, who likes writing contests? We're about to launch our annual online contest, which is now titled Scribblefest! The contest will be open to everyone, whether or not they attend the actual convention. We'll have actual prizes as well. More announcements on that will come soon. In the meantime, check out this slightly longer announcement post:

I'll be there for sure, and would love to help out! :pinkiehappy:

I'll be at EFNW 2016, Xepher.

I'll be there, but I suspect I won't be eligible to win Iron Author :trollestia:

I'll be there, and I'm interested in helping out.

I intend to make an appearance this year

I'm definitely going to keep one eye Seattleward as convention season starts approaching! Since the $16 million grant for our fiber project came through in December, my job is changing very rapidly underneath me, so I can't make commitments one way or another about anything requiring travel plans and/or vacation time, but things look a lot better on that front than they have been. :pinkiehappy:

Update: Augh! Strike that, I'm a definite no for Everfree this year. It's the exact same weekend as Biggest Little Furcon in Reno, which I preregistered for last year because it's only an hour from my house. D:

3703804 Sorry to hear it... But totally understand.

3699620 Cool, will be awesome to meet you in person!

3699455 Welcome back! Will be good to see you again.

3698024 Depends... technically only staff and judges are disqualified.

3697986 Cool!

3697566 Be good to see you again as well.

All that said, I'm going to put out an early call for those willing to help judge Iron Author this year. Judging DOES disqualify you from entering the same contest, of course. I can't promise much in way of reward just for that, though I'll likely buy pizza for whoever is up late and helping. Beyond that, I may have some spots for other things like panels. It's really up in the air for now, until we get event schedules nailed down. I'll keep you all in mind for things though.

LMK if you need Scribblefest help though, and what sort of time frame that would be on (so I can set aside some reading time for it).

Pinging again — did you want judging help?

3727934 Yes, sorry... meant to reach out to you and a few others soon on that.

But yes, would love to have you help judge. Contest doesn't end until the 6th of March, so there's some time before we have to start blocking out time for reading. :derpytongue2:

Also, if you feel inclined, plugging the contest wouldn't be remiss. I was going to go poke my head over in the writeoff group forums here soon, but I'll take any help you can give in spreading the word.

Alright, I'm in! There's a Writeoff around that time, but I'm explicitly skipping the next two to recharge (they're both minific comps) and so even if they conflict you get first call on my reading time.

Speaking of Writeoffs, I'd be happy to throw a plug out there. Right now the site post is still fresh in everyone's mind, and the Writeoffs are deep amid an orgy of reviewing, but I'm setting a note on my calendar to plug the contest in the review thread right before preliminaries end, to give authors something to move on to as they refocus.
