Dear Oculus · 12:30pm Jan 7th, 2016

You had my curiosity, but now, you have nothing.

I get that it's enthusiast and that it's going to be expensive. But. Charging 600 dollars for a VR headset, headphones, wireless 360 controller, and 2 games sort of makes me want only the headset itself. I have a decent set of headphones, and I have a 360 controller. It seems like you could drop the price by about a hundred bucks right there.

399 was a no brainer. 499 would make you wince, but... yeah, okay. 600 is... gah, I can't bring myself to do it.

Sure, you might pay that much for a really good video card... but then that video card gets used in EVERY game you play. You might pay that much for a TV or monitor, but again, everything. The rift isn't quite mainstream yet and this seems a poor way to make it happen.

Even if they cut the price and remove all the dubious 'extras', you have to factor that you need a beastly (and costly) graphic card. The hadware requirements made it a no-go for me, especially since I wanted it not for gaming, but as a platform for watching 3D blurays.

Let's hope their concurrents come up with a more interesting and afordable product.

3671251 The resolution on the thing is absurd. Better than 1080P when lower resolutions were allegedly fine at that size... it raised the hardware specs up pretty roughly too.

I think we're going to see some branding sales. You know, the rift starts up with a mountain dew logo or something. I'd be willing to accept that as opposed to it being so absurdly expensive.

They say they aren't making a profit and yeah, maybe not, but they clearly intend to eventually. I suppose we'll have to see.

I think people are maddest just because of how often the OR team has been willing to tell us anything we want to hear, just so long as it can get them a few more bits of sweet, sweet, non-refundable money before we cotton onto their current plan and they have to come up with something new to bilk us.

I guess im a black sheep in that my first thought for all of that was 'ony 600? thats kinda cool.' Based on what sorta technology the occulas is capable of and all the things it can connect to, plus giving you headphones and a controller probably specialised for the OR, id say 600 doesn't seem that bad actually. Its the price of a new game system actually, which is what the OR really is, a new video game system. top that off with the huge library of games you may already have FOR the OR and it makes even more sense considering the fact so many games are already made, already bought, and now ya just need the item to play them in 3d.
Sure its expensive, but for what it is, and what the devs have put into it, I dont see much need to complain here.
