Proposed new title · 5:01pm Dec 30th, 2015
So, as I sit here at a dead place of business only a day and a half before 2016, I've been occasionally looking over my old stuff and rereading comments and looking for grammatical and spelling errors and stuff, and I couldn't help but constantly end up staring and scratching my chin whiskers over the title of one of my stories that I am particularly proud of, despite the ending being conveyed in a way that you'd probably have to be a fan of the show that the main focus of the story was based on in order to fully understand. I'm speaking of "Abandonment Issues".
I originally intended for the title to be a bit tongue in cheek – the 'issues' that occurred happened because of Rainbow Dash's 'abandonment'. In a not-so-direct way, now that I think about it, it sort of does pertain to Celestia in the story as well, but not for the usual reasons we think of when legit abandonment issues come to mind. She had to do things by herself for a super long time and when things went down in the story that left her (in her own mind) as the only one who could fix things yet again, she felt betrayed, neglected and alone. So, it kind of, sort of, squint-hard-enough-and-you-can-see-it works.
However, the heart of the story belongs to Rainbow Dash. I think her importance to the story, besides being obvious, was rather confirmed – hell, amplified – by what she said, ironically, in canon. I'm referring to the end of the Season 5 finale. She even states herself after Twilight tells them about what she went through that while she knew her rainboom was awesome, she didn't think all of Equestria depended on it. Based on how long ago I started that story up, I think it's safe to argue that the idea I had, that whole 'what if?' scenario I put together, came long before the story Hasbro wrote. Granted, I'm not the first, nor will I be the last, to put something together spinning a wild tale about a rainboom-less Equestria. Either way, it was a fun ride and I enjoyed writing it and I loved that people had an overwhelmingly positive response to it!
Anyway, I have a new title I was sincerely thinking about lately since, when the story was new and ongoing, it didn't get quite as much attention as I was expecting (maybe only hoping?). Ever since the second story I wrote, I knew that having an appealing, attractive bit of cover art is usually a great way to get a first look, not to mention having a provocative story description. I'd like to believe the description was solid, and Conicer's art is always fantastic. Speaking of which, does anyone know what happened to him? I haven't seen him in forever and I wanted to talk to him. I'm thinking he either left the fandom, has been far too busy to worry about online-related artwork or...well, something bad happening to him. Anywho, I realize the story has been put to rest for a while, but it does still get some steady attention and that's always nice. Doesn't mean I can't go back and touch up some things as long as I don't do complete reconstructive surgery.
The only thing I'm debating right now is whether or not to go ahead and go through with it right away, so I figured I'd let you guys have a say in it since we're here on this site as authors to, besides having fun, entertain an audience. So, in a way, the story is yours as much as it is mine. I spoke to my fine buddy Lightning Dust a while back about it and he was cool with either way. I'll come to a final decision in a week and make the change if warranted then.
The new title, based on stressing Rainbow Dash's importance in one timeline or another, would be "One Mare's Worth". Oddly, I did a site search and no other story has this title. Considering how common a phrase 'one man's worth' is in popular culture, I would have thought someone else may have used it with their own stuff. Guess not. Anyway, what do YOU all think? Like the new suggestion or just stick with what it is? Heck, even if you didn't read the story and are just reading this blog post out of curiosity or because you're one of my wonderful followers , what do you say? Hit me up here, and many thanks in advance!
