I'm a brony and a Pinkie Pie fan but I like all of the mane six, as well as Spike. I hope to provide some entertaining and interesting fanfics for the Brony community.

    Episode Re-Review: Grannies Gone Wild

Well, Tell Your Tale finally decided to try to do something interesting, because the last episode showed Sunny's mom in a flashback. But they didn't even give her a name, let alone elaborate on what happened to her. And given the way Tell Your Tale progresses, I'm not expecting any follow-up anytime soon. Getting back to G4, Season 8 hit its first stumbling block only four episodes in, and the

Episode Re-Review: Fake It 'Til You Make It

Oh joy, it's back to Season 8. Season 9 has its fair share of detractors, but hardly anyone I know ever sings Season 8's praises, and for good reason. We now know that the School of Friendship was added at Hasbro's request because they wanted the show to wrap up with nine seasons, forcing the writers to change their plans for the pillars. About the only good thing to come out of Season 8 seems to

Special Re-Review: Equestria Girls: Forgotten Friendship

While we now know that this has to take place not just before Season 8 but before the events of the 2017 FiM movie, it first premiered in February of 2018, about a month before Season 8 of FiM hit the airwaves. Interestingly, the Discovery Family broadcast omitted several scenes that were later released as part of an "extended" version. As for the writer, it was none other than Nick Confalone,

    Episode Re-Review: Uncommon Bond

After the absolute disaster that was "Secrets and Pies", Season 7 really needed something to redeem it and give it the chance to go out on a high note, especially now that the big 2017 movie had come and gone, and the show's future was still uncertain. Josh Haber, after having returned to the story editor's chair and ultimately taking back the reigns fully from Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco

Top Fifteen Songs of MLP FiM · 5:55am Dec 6th, 2015

Season 5 included some pretty good songs, and some duds. But there were a few songs that really stood out, and had to be added to the list of the show's best songs. Because of that, a top ten just wouldn't have sufficed. So instead, a top fifteen is in order. Here is the top ten list, in case you want to see what 10 songs made the cut back when Season 4 was over. And Equestria Girls will not be included, despite Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games offering some good songs. Perhaps, a top ten list of Equestria Girls will come out in the future. But don't quote me on that.

By now, you should know the drill, this list is by no means offical. Let's see what made the cut.

15. Find a Pet (From: May The Best Pet Win)
Why it moved down: For the first song in Season 2, seven episodes in, we were treated to a FlutterDash duet. Perhaps the first offical duet of the show, and for a while considered to be among the best Season 2 had to offer, this song has since been topped by much of what came after it. And considering the episode this was in, it certainly didn't show Rainbow Dash's character in the best light.

14. The Rules of Rarity (From: Canterlot Boutique)
Why it was added: Not since "The Pony Everypony Should Know" did Rarity get a song that truly expressed what her character was all about. Sure, "Generosity" was by no means a bad song, but considering the episode it was in kept shoving the theme of Rarity's generosity down our throats, it's understandable that the song featured in it would ultimately lose out to one that showed Rarity's artistic style. Here, we learned more about why Rarity stresses individuality so much in her line of work, and what her drive is when it comes to dress making.

13. Art of The Dress (From: Suited for Sucess)
Why it moved down: Even with the entry directly below it, this song remains perhaps Rarity's best. It was the first time her character truly got a chance to shine, and show us that she could hold an episode and song on her own. It was also the start of Kazumi Evans' wonderful performance as Rarity's singing voice, following in the footsteps of the success of Shanon-Chan Kent as the singing double for Pinkie Pie. Considering that Kazumi has since gone on to become a VA in her own right to an extent with Adagio Dazzle, Octavia, and Moondancer, it's interesting to look back to a time when she had yet to make a name for herself. This is an absolutely wonderful song, but everything that comes after it is just that much better. Hey, no one said this list was going to be easy.

12. Glass of Water (From: Three's A Crowd)
Why it moved down: It may be the only Discord song to date, and it may be hectic in a good way, but the episode it was featured in wasn't very good. And it seemed to start a trend that would plague "What About Discord?" where the writers and animators counted on impressive visuals and clever references, to try and cover up a weak story. Unfortunately, as "Rainbow Falls" showed all too well, you can put all the bandages you want on a bad wound, but they won't heal it. If your story isn't strong enough to be enjoyable, then no amount of references or visuals will be able to save it. Show, don't tell is important, but make sure what you're showing isn't just to distract the audience from the story.

11. Babs Seed (From: One Bad Apple)
Why it moved down: Even though "We'll Make Our Mark" was a great CMC song, it just wasn't as catchy as this song. It is perhaps the only good thing about an otherwise horrendously bad episode that really hurt Cindy Morrow's reputation after her impressive work in Season 2. Hindsight has not been very kind to this song, as it's just so uncomfortable to know that the CMC and Diamond Tiara have come such a long way from stuff like this, and that this could unfortunately be the lasting impression Babs Seed left. Yes, she popped up in another Season 3 episode, and had a background cameo in a Season 5 episode, but by now it seems Hasbro has put Babs on a bus and does not intend to ever bring her back. Oh well, at least there's the comics. Getting back on topic, this is one of those rare occasions where the episode is unquestionably bad, but the song is really good. It just couldn't compete with what came after it.

10. A True True Friend (From: Magical Mystery Cure)
Why it moved down: In the end, it came down to this song versues "What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me" for what song was the best one from Magical Mystery Cure, and thus would represent it in the list, and this song won out by a hair. It helped the story to flow really well, though perhaps not the greatest. All of the mane six got their chance to shine, though Fluttershy did not get a solo verse. For one of her final works before she would become known as the voice of Sunset Shimmer in the Equestria Girls franchise, Rebecca Shoichet delivered a splendid performance as Twilight's singing voice. And since this song was so catchy, we got treated to a brief reprise in the end credits of the finale. But stiff competition again knocked this song down.

9. I'll Fly (From: Tanks For The Memories)
Why it was included: Despite being part of an actual band in real life, Ashliegh Ball really doesn't seem to get that many chances to sing compared to Rebecca, Shanon, Andrea, and Kazumi. It took until Season 3 for Applejack to get her first solo song, and it took until Season 5 for the same thing to happen to Rainbow Dash, to which I say "It's about time!". This beautifully composed rock song was exactly the kind of song we'd expect from our tomboy pegasus, and seeing the lengths she'd go to for her pet that she originally didn't seem to care about that much in public speaks quite a bit of depth about her character. I really want to put this higher, but everything that comes after it is more enjoyable. Yet again, it's a really good song, but it couldn't clear the tough competition that ranked above it.

8. This Day Aria (From: A Canterlot Wedding Part 2)
Why it moved down: It's amazing how a song as impressive, out standing, enjoyable, and insanely popular continues to be topped time and time again. And this is hardly the last time that's going to happen on this list. I don't hate this song at all, I love it! It's a villan song that rivals some of the greatest Disney villan songs of all time, and considering how iconic and memorable classics like "Cruella De Vill", "Poor Unfortunate Souls, "Gaston", "Be Prepared", and "Friends On The Other Side" are, that is saying a lot. When you've heard this song once, you'll be coming back to listen again and again.

7. Apples to The Core (From: Pinkie Apple Pie)
Why it moved down: It's been almost two whole years since the fully animated version, and almost three years since it was first leaked as an animatic, but this song is still as catchy as ever, and for good reason. The entire Apple family, and Pinkie Pie provided a song that no one in their right mind could resist. "Raise This Barn" may have tested the waters for Applejack, but it was this song that proved she deserves more chances to sing than she's gotten so far. At this point, she's the only mane six member who has yet to get a really catchy and memorable solo song, and one of three mane eight members that has yet to get a proper focus song. Though I sense that's not going to last for long. Come Season 6, Starlight is likely to get her own song, though when that will happen I can't say for certain.

6. Our Town (From: The Cutie Map a.k.a Cutie Markless Part 1)
Why it was included: You didn't honestly think a song as catchy and irresistable as this song was not going to be on this list, did you? Even after Season 5 surprised us with two musical episodes, and a good selection of iconic songs, this song was still among the most talked about, and most memorable. It doesn't really count for a Starlight Glimmer villan song, since she's not showing off her villanous characteristics here. This is basically propaganda, Starlight Glimmer style, as we started to see the writing on the wall in regards to the philosophy the villagers followed. But what likely made this song stand out so much, was the line about never dreaming, indicating that Starlight Glimmer prevented anyone in the town from having any dreams of individuality, and no desires outside of being equal. And just when you thought she couldn't get anymore despicable.

5. The Magic Inside Me a.k.a I Am Just a Pony (From: The Mane Attraction)
Why it was included: Just like "Apples to The Core" this song was leaked as an animatic months before it was fully animated and shown on television. Lena Hall provided a beautiful singing performance in this fully orchestral song, and so many people shed tears of liquid pride by the time it was over. Sadly, this would not be Amy Keating Rogers' swan song. That honor would go to a reprise of "Equestria, The Land I Love", and while it would still send Amy off on a high note, if this song had been her final contribution, it very well might have been a tearjerker to end all tearjerkers.

4. Winter Wrap Up (From: Winter Wrap Up)
Why it moved down: It's been almost 5 years since this song debuted, and yet we still have it stuck in our heads and keep coming back to it. As I've mentioned countless times before, it's the only thing anyone remembers about the episode it was featured in, other than that there isn't much. My only question now is, why hasn't it been recreated in SFM yet? There's a lot of high quality models that could be used for it.

3. Smile, Smile, Smile a.k.a The Smile Song (From: A Friend in Deed)
Why it moved down: It's funny to think that this song used to be the best Pinkie Pie song, and the best song in the entire show. What a difference a couple of seasons can make. Topping this song was not an easy task at all, and even if the episode it was featured in was not one of Pinkie Pie's better outings (thank you Season 5 for your impressive Pinkie Pie potrayals throughout almost every episode), this song was catchy, enjoyable, and memorable. In regards to that certain video based on it, I'm NOT talking about it!

2. The Pony I Wanna Be (From: Crusaders of The Lost Mark)
Why it was included: What's this, my favorite song from my favorite episode, and it's not number one? Have I gone mad?! No, you're not seeing things, this emotional masterpiece that turned one of the most despised characters on the show into a character that almost everyone was suddenly starting to feel sorry for, is only number 2. Why, you might ask? Well, I'll discuss it more in depth when we get to number 1, but it largely boils down to personal preference, even though they're practically tied, and featured the same context and imagery (to an extent). Sweetie Belle summed up what we were all thinking after this song "Is it weird that I feel bad for her?"

1. Pinkie's Lament (From: Pinkie Pride)
Why it stayed the same: Both of these songs feature a character lamenting to themselves, and generally feeling unhappy. Both involve said character shedding tears, while looking at their reflection from a bridge, and both of them wondering if their cutie mark really suits them. But one ends triumphantly, with the character deciding not to give up, while the other ends with the character wondering off still sulking. So why is this song ahead of "The Pony I Wanna Be" despite "Crusaders of The Lost Mark" beating out "Pinkie Pride" in my episode rankings? Well, as I said before, it largely boils down to personal preference. But there is one slight problem I have with "The Pony I Wanna Be", Diamond Tiara is seeing crying her heart out on a bridge, as ponies walk by, and just after her mother left. Pinkie Pie was on her own when she cried, and she quickly decided to quit wallowing in self pity, and try to move on. I understand that Pinkie Pie is a fully functioning young adult despite her more childish moments, while Diamond Tiara is a school aged child, and Pinkie Pie was dealing with a personal conflict, while Diamond Tiara was dealing with an abusive mother. But the fact that no one could overhear Diamond Tiara's thoughts, ultimately gave the victory to "Pinkie's Lament". But who knows, maybe in Season 6 this song will be topped?

And there you have it.

There are way too many honorable mentions to throw out here, so I'm afraid I won't be doing them this around. There's just too many songs that deserve to be an honorable mention, that to list even a few of them would take forever.

I'd personally swap 2 and 1, and move I'll Fly into number 2. But, this is still an interesting list.

Although, I still say that Rainbow Falls is RD's best episode from the first 4 seasons.

Y U not include video of each song in your blog post? :raritydespair:
