Shower Ideas #1 (No, You're Late - Follow Up) · 10:26am Dec 1st, 2015
Well, I did it, and here I am! After many weeks of contemplation, I am on FIMFiction, posting my own stuff and viewing the works of others. Finally!
Well, as is to be expected, first stories aren't usually great big extravaganzas, that capture the world's attention with the ferocity and the immediacy of, say, a new Marvel movie. They take a bit of time to mature and actually get noticed by others, and often fall short of reaching the stars, despite your best hopes and anxiety wishing that it might. There are exceptions to the rule, mind, but mine followed the exact pattern I mentioned above.
However, 234 views, 14 likes and a handful of favourites within the first 18 hours of it being published was actually rather generous from all of you who read it . I send you all my thanks. But in all honesty, I feel like I don't really deserve such merit for what I've done with this story.
The idea was sparked in what is, for me, typical fashion. Around a week before now, I was juggling around random thoughts in my head in the shower, and I simply put about 4 or 5 ideas together, and BOOM! Fanfic in the making right there. Apparently, there's an entire reddit (or something like that. I don't interweb as you all do, or that often, either) for people like me who come up with great ideas in the shower. Sounds like a good blog series for me to write, now that I think about it. I'll keep you posted.
EDIT: This post is now the first of my new Shower Ideas sequence of my blog posts. Stay tuned. Or not. I'm not forcing you. OR MAYBE I AM! Wait, no. No I'm not.
Anyway, after a few days of exams at school (damn school, I tell you. So much time chewed by the supposedly vital education system that I've been so forcefully placed into), I got back home on Friday night... and fell asleep. The day after that, however, I had a fanfic to write. I was on a mission. Nothing could stop me. Except for a birthday party. And a rock concert. And my little brother had friends over. Yeah, I really struggled to find enough time to get this all together. While I did manage to find about 4 hours of constant interruption, it was simply not enough to finish. That's why last night, I cranked it all up, put it through the processor and voilĂ ! Finished short story. Edited, even. Although, that kind of terminology does stretch it a bit. It was more like I ran it through my best friend, who said it was all gg, then went back to playing Oblivion.
All in all, though, I am quite pleased with myself. I'm normally a writer of typically dark and meaningful tales (as you shall witness very soon, if you can be bothered sticking around), so to write a punchy little light-hearted one-shot like that was a refreshing breather for me. It didn't even need much planning, as I'm intrinsically the type of person who thinks very well on the fly, so I felt like I just went back to basics. I'm certainly a fan of good comedy, and while I doubt that any of you broke into hysterics while reading my story, I do hope that the sheer ridiculousness and sillyness of it at least made you smile
