    Quick Question

I feel like most fluttercord fans have moved on. And I have no right to ask because I am the worst at keeping promises, but if I ever finished a weird "Beauty and the Beast" fluttercord-style, would you read it?

    "Discord's Patchwork Adventure" by Comicizzum

I know it's been a long time, and I know I probably don't really have a lot of followers anymore since so many have moved on from the fandom, but I tend to hold on and never let go. And in doing so, I found an amazing fluttercord story that features romance (obviously), touching friendship scenes that show it ISN'T just the romantic relationship that matters, a large amount of beloved side

Um... New Story Maybe and Also I'm Sorry

I know. It's been too long

    I'm sorry.

I'm writing a new one shot though. I missed writing. I never left the fandom, but life got busy. And it is still very incredibly busy.

    I Have Changed My Mind!

So I hardly EVER split chapters into two separate parts. I've done it before, but only like once or maybe twice. But then Phoaray (an awesome writer, btw, I highly recommend his Twixie/Fluttercord story, Hopes and Follies), suggested that I consider it. I originally told him that I didn't really do that, and gave him a really gross metaphor

While the ending was really rushed to me, and I thought Starlight Glimmer's background story was extremely weak and her redemption teeny bit unbelievable, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And while I'm not a big Sparity fan, my heart broke for Spike when he found the Carousel Boutique abandoned, and then Rarity flat out says she doesn't associate with dragons. I had to see Spike cry! :fluttercry:

On the other hand, Rainbow Dash's new haircuts were freaking fantastic. Can we make her warrior-for-Celestia hairdo her real one? She looked so bad-donkey! Hoo boy!

*Discord is shown for a mere three seconds. This does not please me. You put him on the same rank as the freaking Flim Flam brothers? I THINK NOT!*

But I enjoyed it a lot, despite the lack of Mane Six interaction. I like it when they all save the day, but I do understand that Twilight is the main protagonist, and therefore gets to do more stuff.

But....

I REALLY hope that Starlight Glimmer doesn't become a main character and becomes the Mane 7. And no, I'm not going to lie: a part of it is because of the fanfiction. Yes, I am that selfish. Gosh, I wonder if my story (MLD:WiC) should be tagged AU eventually. I can't see it fitting with this season at all, and it happens right after the s4 finale. Hoo boy.

But also...I just feel like it's too big a change.

Now, I'm COMPLETELY fine with Starlight becoming something like a student of Twilight's and making appearances, maybe even getting an episode or two. But really, I'd rather have her make her own friends...Just because the dynamic would be so different. Everything would change!! Just like Twilight said, friendship changes everything! I just don't know...At this point, I'm just so attached to the Mane Six that I just wouldn't feel the same way about Starlight.

Wow, this makes me sound like I'm against friendship. HOW DARE THE MANE SIX ADD ANOTHER ONE? HOW DARE THEY! NOOOO THEY ARE AN EXCLUSIVE CLUB AND ONLY SIX ARE INVITED!

But it's a tv show, so I figure it's not that bad for me to feel this way, right?

But what of the Elements of Harmony? Is that even a thing anymore? And Starlight doesn't have a throne...

I honestly find it hard to believe that she really would become as important as the Mane 6, enough to make it 7. This show has gone a long way, and it's taken a few risks, but....I dunno.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see...But how do you all feel about it? Would you love Starlight to make it the Mane 7, or not? Don't worry, I'm totally cool with differing opinions!

But what of the Elements of Harmony? Is that even a thing anymore? And Starlight doesn't have a throne...

I think this is part of why it feels "off"; they're just stapling her on to an established group, without making her part of the experience that brought the group together. Unless you count the fact that she tried to interfere with the Rainboom... but I don't feel like it's quite the same thing.

Now I don't necessarily have a problem with her joining them. I actually applaud the creators for advancing the storyline through events like Twicorn and the CMCs getting marked. But we don't know much about Starlight beyond her origins and her OMG EXTREME POWER-ness (which btw is apparently greater than the Alicorn Element of Magic protege of Celestia). Maybe we'll get some of that next season; maybe not.

Maybe that's ultimately why I feel unsure about the day's events: We don't know what they mean. Is Starlight going to "really" become part of the gang, or is she just going to become a recurring/supporting/background character? And if she joins them, what will she bring to the group dynamic?

Are there any major character archetypes that are unrepresented within the Mane 6?

She's undergoing the exact same heel face turn Sunset Shimmer underwent. Do we really need a repeat of that? Yeah, I was kind of disappointed by her reformation too. It wasn't heartfelt. It felt tacked on. She seemed to be taking a LOT of glee in teaching Twilight a lesson, and then all of a sudden the waterworks start? Meh. And yeah, having a seventh would be kind of odd...again it's tacked on. Having said that, if she becomes a repeating character with the frequency of Discord I wouldn't mind. Just not...all the time.

Actually that's another thing that irked me.

"I've never met anyone as good at magic as her!"

img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20150518133943/mlp/images/c/cb/Discord's_jealousy_begins_S5E7.png

Or maybe he still annoys her too much.

I was hoping Starswirl would make an appearance but damn...guess not.

3574709 Lol yeah. Sorry Discord, your magic doesn't count!!!1!!!!1!!!!!1one

I guess I would have an easier time letting the magic thing go if I had any sense of what Starlight would bring to the group dynamic.

Discord brings any number of unique elements, being a natural prankster and still a bit prone to overstepping boundaries while doing whatever he's doing. (He's also a guy... FWIW, it's a difference). In Sunset Shimmer's case, she was able to step into the leadership role a more confident Twilight might play if EqG-Twi wasn't so different from Horse-Twi. But Starlight is still a blank slate; apart from her (former) ideologies, we really don't know much about her interests or personality.

I agree that if Starlight becomes a mane character, I will NOT be happy. I mean, her reformation felt rushed, and it's going to change everything with another of the Mane 6. But I will say this episode was good, but every time Twilight went to another "bad dimension" I was praying it would be Discord's....but we didn't get that until she kept popping up in different dimensions. I do have one question though: Shouldn't all the dimensions be in one dimension, cause they all happened near the same time, and the Mane 6 wouldn't have been able to save Equestria, so wouldn't there just be one bad world that all the villains took over? Also where was the other dimensional Twilights? We never saw her in each dimension, and it would have been funny for Twilight to meet those other Twilights! I think I'm overthinking this though...probably because I had the idea of what if the Rainboom never happened! Curse you Hasbro for taking my idea!!!!!

I don't really pay much attention to EQG. I watched the first one but was good after that, and I don't really like the designs. But yeah, I can see how she's like another Sunset.

I'm glad you all agree with me though, that it would feel odd if Glimmer became the Seventh. She doesn't even have an Element, and we already have a character that's still trying to learn about friendship and makes mistakes while doing so. She didn't go through everything the Mane Six did, and time travel or no, her cutie mark is not connected to the Six.

Who she IS connected to? Double Diamond, Party Favor, and the others, who we saw forgive Starlight for a brief moment. THAT'S who her group should be, and have come visit the Mane Six or vice versa. They'd be interesting parallels to each other.

As for what dynamic Starlight adds, is an interesting question, Coffee. If they DO make her an MC (and it feels so wrong to say this, since this show is about friendship and I know how awful it can be to want to be friends with an exclusive group that doesn't want you with them)--which I hope isn't the case--I do wonder what kind of role she'd have. I feel like she'd be a lot hungrier than Twilight in terms of making a place in the world...She kinda feels like an older version of Diamond Tiara before we got Diamond's backstory.

But Starlight's backstory was total crap. I felt no sympathy for her, unlike I did for Diamond Tiara, Fluttershy, Luna, comic Sombra, etc. Those characters had real struggles, and didn't have a lot going for them.

Now, if they had Starlight as a blank flank the whole time...THEN maybe I'd feel for her. But nope. Nope nope nope.

I saw someone comment that she should've reunite with her friend, Sunburst. That would've been great, too. But totally, she could have her own group to start over with, like Sunset did. And write about her adventures to Twilight. That'd be a far more satisfying ending.

Gosh, I wonder if my story (MLD:WiC) should be tagged AU eventually.

Most fanfiction involving canon characters/events is technically AU (unless it takes place in such a small microcosm of the canon that it somehow impacts nothing, which is pretty rare). But in practice, what is usually considered AU is something that either changes or differs from established canon at the time of writing. Twilight losing her wings in a story taking place after Glimmer has been reformed? Not AU, since we have no idea of the events after now; a "takes place before/after" warning helps alleviate confusion. Twilight fudging things and never becoming an alicorn in a story taking place/being written after when she would have gotten them. AU. It's somewhat subjective, but intent and timing are really what matter.

*Discord is shown for a mere three seconds. This does not please me. You put him on the same rank as the freaking Flim Flam brothers? I THINK NOT!*

I agree wholeheartedly with this. I was waiting all throughout the episode for Discord's dimension and it's like three seconds long!?!?! I feel cheated. :ajsleepy:

3575260 I agree with you about Starlight's backstory being utter bull. The one thing that ran through my mind while watching her flashback was, "Hey, you selfish wench! Couldn't you just be happy for your friend!?"
It would have been different if either she got her cutie mark at the same time as her friend, but did not receive the same kind of praise as her colt friend did. Or like you said, if Starlight has been a blank flank all her life and Twilight brings her to the CMC so they can help Starlight.

Another reason I did not like that they made Starlight redeem is because I had her as a villian in my story, The Singing Heart. Can I still keep her as a bad guy?

Actually, it's even worse than Discord being on the level of Flim and Flam. Twilight says each world she comes to is worse than the last, and the Flim Flam brothers come after Discord. This means...

Industrialization is more evil than all of reality unraveling.

3575260 Same thing here. In fact, I refused to redeem her in my fan fic, Glimmer is till the bad guy.
