A British Gentleman

I am a fan of many things, particularly the fine works of Sir Terry Pratchett (may he rest in peace). After spending a long time lurking, I have elected to create an account.

    Too Funny Not to Share

Good evening, my fine ladies and gentlemen. I may be a touch late with this, but I feel it's too good to pass up on. Behold, fanfic, as written by predictive text:

    [Non Pony] Purest Snake Oil

Good evening, my good ladies and gentlemen. I hope to find you alive, well and, preferably, tipsy.

A video recently dropped on YouTube, concerning the vexing topic of Anti-Vaxxers. Some of it, however, featured a firm called Coseva. A seller of outrageously overpriced snake oil, it's claims about its products are mindbogglingly stupid and wrong.

I Really Hope That This Guy is a Troll

Good morning, my good ladies and gentlemen, and a Merry Christmas to all.

I'm hoping that the guy I'm about to show you is a troll, but, having looked at his posting history, there's a very real chance he's the real deal. If so, I present to you the least self-aware arsehole on the internet. As you read that statement, consider the state of the competition...

[Non-Pony] CERN Controversy: An Impartial Scientist's Perspective

Greetings my good ladies and gentlemen. I hope to find you well.

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't been following the news on the matter, an Italian physics professor, Alessandro Strumia, was invited to participate in a workshop on gender in physics by Cern, with an audience largely composed of young, early career (Ph.D students and Postdocs) female physicists.

Beware the Spoilers! · 10:18pm Nov 21st, 2015

A new video preview of the season finale has been released. As is oft the case with such, it contains hefty spoilers. Normally, this would not be a thing, as the video can be easily avoided.

Sadly, however, there are many here and on ED that believe these spoilers to be fair game, and are spreading them liberally. I advise deactivation of group notices for the time being.

I don't want to be that guy: the one who thoughtlessly blogs or posts spoilers where people who want to go In completely unspoiled can stumble across them.

You don't want to be that guy either.

Remember, my good ladies and gentlemen: label spoilers as such clearly before you say ANYTHING. Use page breaks. Use the spoiler tool.

Like so:

Season Finale: SPOILERS for Fluttershy below page break:

Fluttershy will be in the season finale.

See. Easy.

Remember, ladies and gentlemen: think before you post. Label and tag your spoilers, and don't be that guy.

Amen.

I probably SHOULD deactivate group notifications, but people sometimes put the spoilered material right in the title, as:

SPIKE IS A DINOSAUR ZOMG WHO DO YOU SHIP HIM WITH (Spoilers!)

--as though putting "spoilers!" in the title magically made you un-see the rest of the title.

In a group thread, put it in spoiler tags. If you started the thread or it's your blog, put any spoilered material under a page break so that it doesn't show up in a feed.

This is why I temporarily left The Writer's Group, because they yammer too much, and why I will not stand for it in RR. After the season finale, I will unbend and re-join TWG, but not until then.

This was prompted by someone in the Fluttershy group posting a thread with:

A spoiler in the title.
A spoiler filled video.
Unmarked spoilers in the text, visible from my feed.

When I responded saying to be careful about this sort of thing, the whole thread was awash with unmarked spoilers. I know to avoid ED, tv tropes and the rest at this time, but when the wretched things are dropped in my feed, what am I to do?

3559450 I know. It's maddening.

Damn it, Knighty! Why can't I like blog posts?
