Royal Canterlot Library Feature and Interview

So the noble curators of the Royal Canterlot Library decided they wanted to feature my story 'What is Left'. It comes with a written interview, too. Quite the honor. You can read my interview here: https://royalcanterlotlibrary.net/2018/03/09/onionpies-what-is-left/

Working On Non-Pony Stuff Right Now

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I've been focusing on original writing projects so far this year. Writing is my greatest passion, and I want to make a career out of it. Sadly, you don't make any horsebucks from writing horsefics, so I'll have to look elsewhere for writing-related income. Not that I'm going to stop writing pony stuff forever; I have a nice home here on Fimfiction and this is

    Call for Proofreaders!

I have an 8,000 word fimfic that's pretty much finished. I'm in need of feedback on it before I make my last-pass revisions and edits. It's in its sixth draft at the moment. If you'd like to give it an early read and offer me your feedback, please do leave a comment here or PM me to let me know, especially if you're experienced with proofreading.

Still Alive, Still Working: A Quick Update

I'm currently working on two ~7k word stories. One is in its fourth draft, the other in its fifth draft. Both of them have been driving me nuts. I'm trying really hard to make them not suck. Sorry it's been taking so long to get out a new story for you guys. But hey, on the bright side, this time you may get two OnionPie stories at the same time. Hurray.

To Pone or Not to Pone · 6:04pm Nov 21st, 2015

Sorry for the radio silence lately. My writing attention has been kinda split between fanfiction and original fiction (not that I've been particularly productive anyway). I've worked on an interesting short story featuring our favorite purple princess recently which may or may not see the light of day. At the moment I'm in the process of outlining an original novel which probably won't go anywhere. But although I've been conflicted regarding whether I should focus on fan or original fiction, you can rest assured that I'll definitely keep writing pony stuff even if I do some original on the side.

I will write pony fanfiction well into the foreseeable future (and likely beyond, too).

I am curious, though--what kind of stories have you come to expect of me? And what aspects of my writing made you want to follow me?

I've come to expect good writing from you.

Great! I'll just write stories with good writing, then. Easy peasy.

Just write what feels right. :trollestia:

From you, I've come to expect stories with a huge emotional kick. Whether it be a happy one, sad one, bittersweet... Your stories have a lot of depth in them. And as for why I followed you, well, not only are your stories phenomenal, but you were also willing to listen to what I had to say when I offered my critiques.

You've asked two questions with subtly different answers.

what kind of stories have you come to expect of me?

You like things dark. I know I'm in for a gut-wrenching ride when I read one of your stories. You'll dangle enough hope to make a "good ending" seem plausible, but more often than not, that ain't where it's heading. Even so, the way you write is descriptive and engaging enough to make the journey into darkness worthwhile. I may end up feeling a knife in the gut, but I will feel that knife, and not every author can do that.

what aspects of my writing made you want to follow me?

I've said before that At The End Of The Rainbow is what drew me to you. I was new to the fandom and on an RD/Scoots kick. Your story showed Scootaloo at the end of her rope, and it completely sold me on how she might feel about her disability and its affect on her life. It helped me realize that fanfiction has ability to explore themes that the source material can't. And she didn't die. In letting her have a good ending, you brought her through a more complete emotional spectrum; all the way from despair and self-destruction to vulnerability and renewed hope.

...

If I had to summarize all that, I'd say you have a unique ability to depict emotion, and to elicit emotional investment in your characters' struggles and triumphs.

Gotta get that dose of criticism if you want to improve. I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on my stories.

As silly as you are, it's flattering that you think so highly of my writing. We should have more talks about the craft if you have the time. I assume that even if your regular business isn't keeping your busy, NaNo surely is.

I for some reason thought I was following you, but apparently not..

Firstly, I wish you sincere luck with both of your works in progress.

going off of your published stories, I try not to expect anything other than what I'm presented with. And since most of your works contain heavy themes, I expect something serious in the long run, whether it ends happily or not. But with your writing ability in mind, I can see you touching up on a variety of themes and situations and it being an entertaining read. So, really you could write anything and I'd give it a try honestly.

Thanks for sharing your expectations. I do feel like I'm slowly branching out into different themes. I really do love tragedy, which is where most of my heavier stuff comes from, but I'm warming up to endings that are more bittersweet than outright heartbreaking, so you can expect some variety which is always nice. And accidentally not following me yet is kind of funny--thanks for that! I'll keep doing my best at the things I do and hopefully not disappoint you too much.

PS: I checked out your art. Good stuff. Keep it up.

3653477 Spicing up your writing is always great I think. So I'll be looking forward to what you'll show, though I doubt I'll be disappointed very much at all.

And thank you! most of my work is old (and not the best of quality) so I really appreciate the words.
