Chase Me (No Spoilers) and other News · 12:29pm Oct 14th, 2015

One look at the long description on this story and I knew I was going to have something about this. Hell, even Benny, a user that stopped following me months ago and completely ignores me these days, had to send me a PM pointing out the incredibly awkward thing that has just happened. Not that I needed warning, I gave a read and left a review yesterday in the early morning. I'll get to that later.

In case you haven't seen the front page this week, or just living under a rock, the predator-on-prey, Human X Pony clopfic Chase Me is melting faces in the #1 spot on the featured list, and has been for the last couple of days notching 2327 views on it's first 24-hour day. It's too soon for me to do any meaningful statistical analysis, give me another day, but this thing will probably top 1000 likes. The way new stories generally operate (assuming a horse famous user or outside website doesn't promotes you after day 1) you can expect one full week of balls-out blitzkrieg on your story, followed by general apathy. This is true whether or not your story is a one-shot or a multi-chapter epic. Stories make their impression on the first week. We also have other horse-famous artists like Zu_The_Skunk who have turned to fanfiction and shattered the thousand barrier as well as the top of the featured list.

In short, I feel confident in calling Chase Me a significant hit story.

Goddamn, that's a nice piece of fanart. :rainbowwild: You didn't hear it from me, but there are also NSFW versions of that image too and...

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ysvptF2l6yQ/Uz4RGmGPNrI/AAAAAAAAArg/iq6D0TY9QcQ/s1600/1.gif

Yeeeeeah... There ain't enough Tex Avery in the world for that! :rainbowwild: Initiate Derpibooru search, dear readers!

Anyway, to answer the first question... yes! God yes! The long description sounds an awful lot like The Scent of Prey - A Gentleman For Mares Side Story. In fact I nearly coated my spat tea all over my monitor when I read it. Human in Equestria, member of the Flower Trio, consensual non-consent (rape fantasy), inspired by Wild Rose... hell, the description even closely matches a shameless self-promotion I made, on the same day CM launched, for TSoP! :pinkiegasp: Illuminati? I could almost buy that!

So, how is it? Well, I did one of my line by line breakdowns that I reserve for very special fanfics I have an interest in; a sort of MST3K humor approach mixed with actual criticism in the comments of Chase Me. For those of you who don't care to look, my spoiler-free thoughts:

The sex was exceptional! As an artist, he knows his anatomy and puts his knowledge of it to good use. 10/10 would clop again.

The atmosphere of the chase was... very uneven. I'll be honest, he didn't quite sell the whole experience for me. Part of it was the human OC and part of it was the narration. What I can say is the action and suspense does pick up about half of the way through and PussPuss brings the full weight of his pen down on the narration.

The Human OC was... incredibly creepy and weeeeird. Seriously, really weeeeeird. I'll spoil this for you: the man wears strawberry nightwear. Shirt, pants, all covered in strawberries! What... the... hell!?"

So all and I, I liked it. The final, and most important question is, of course, was it a complete ripoff of TSoP? No. Honestly, it's closer to the ancient and unused version of it I kept in my head before settling on "Gentleman has sex with Roseluck." PussPuss even assured me that he skimmed over TSoP first to make sure he wasn't stealing my gig. If you read this, PussPuss, I appreciate you and your proofreaders for doing that.

That said, there are some eerily similar word choices and parallels between our two stories I find intriguing and I can't help but see Chase Me as a far more successful version of my story. It's kind of depressing, to be honest with you. It's like my first story had the right angle, but not the skill or audience or artwork to back it up. Will I ever be able to put it all together and write a story that has the same potential as TSoP? I can't help but doubt it. :pinkiesad2:

At any rate, that's pretty cool that you were able to write another hit. If I had any skill whatsoever with digital art, I'd do the same thing you're doing: Cranking out basic one-shot clops and harvesting likes hand over fist, so more power to you. Your work is decent and will only get better over time. Thank you for giving Lily Valley a big-hit story all her own. She doesn't get a lot of glory in this fandom, yet she's one of my favorite background ponies.

In other news, I'm in early planning stages for, you guessed it, another Flower Trio story. It will be third-person like Fertile Ground, and cover all three of the Flower Trio through the canon years and into the interdimensional portal years of Gentleman For Mares. It's almost like a series of one-shots, but it will show how they met and how they reacted to humanity's entry into Equestria. Yep, I'm going back to the ol' Gentlemanverse Well.

It's almost a waste of time to mention this, but it will be M-Rated sex and follow the established characters in my other stories. It won't retread any old ground or deal with much show canon though.

Until next time.

3469334 I'm sorry about how I was with A Gentleman's Price. I didn't really know how to handle the pressure of updating a story and reacted by just trying to throw out the material as fast as possible. I'm going to go slow with the new story and you'll be a very important part of the story. Again, I'm really sorry about AGP; I shouldn't have been in such a rush.

My OC was certainly much better than his, but where the rubber meets the road, most folks don't care about the human; he is simply the guy plowing the horse. Good artwork is a massive advantage as well. Having communities built on other websites is a huge, huge plus going into a numbers war.

Not that I begrudge him; he/she has clearly worked their ass off to reach such a pinnacle of artistic skill. I would absolutely do the very same thing if I could draw. Alas for such dreams. I'll have to build my following here to ever reach 1000.

Bwahahaha! Yes! That is what I was going for lol. :rainbowlaugh:

Maybe not so much creepy, but definitely unusual and strange.

PussPuss even assured me that he skimmed over TSoP first to make sure he wasn't stealing my gig.

I feel I should have read more... to be honest, I read and skimmed over a lot. I just got the the gist of what your story was, and it seemed like mine was completely different. But when I went back to read it again, fully, I started to see the many subtle similarities between our stories. All I can say is that I believe the Illuminati has taken over my mind at the time and forced me to write certain parts to confuse and trick the masses into worshiping Satan! :pinkiegasp:

...

Or just a coincidence.
Either way I feel kind of bad... I should have read the story more so that they wouldn't be so simmaler. They are still two completely different stories, but it does get kind of chilling when you see some parts where they are the same... :twilightsheepish:

I now have the sudden urge to write about a murderous clown in Ponyville that murders ponies in an outfit covered in strawberries.:trixieshiftright:

3471279 Tell the Illuminati I'm onto their schemes and I'll be watching! :derpytongue2:

Actually, I think it's Baphomet they're supposed to be worshipping.

But surely you knew you that already, servant of the Illuminati! :trollestia:

The thing that really weirded me out was the repeated use of "monster" and the description of her room. It's really remarkable how close our descriptive language is too.

Edit: This doesn't make your story a copy though. I really do admire how you tried to sell the whole rape fantasy route, instead of doing what I did and going for laughs. It set your story apart and it was a more difficult angle to write from, so well done! :moustache:

At this point, you can write any story you want. Despite your most recent story slowing down, you're horse famous, and you can do whatever you want. Fimfiction is at your feet!
