So you know how there are some people who think it's weird that Sunset has no desire to go back to Equestria? Those people can now shut it.
Because it turns out that there was an entire sub-plot centred around that exact conflict in the movie. Unfortunately it was dropped before being animated. Which really sucks because that would've made the entire thing, (that thing being Sunset's reformation arc) more complete. Not to mention it would've brought the first short and the secondary conflict (both of which revolving around how magic works in equestria) into context as another complete arc.
If you don't want to watch it I'll tell you what happens. If you do, here it is
Basically the second through last of the deleted scenes (and even the first kinda) revolve around Sunset longing for magic again. The sports thing at CHS being somewhat boring in comparison

You know what would make it not boring... some children's card games.
In this alternate reality Twilight does make a cameo as Sunset meets her at Sugarcube Corner. I guess if this scene happens then two things would happen. One... the ships would sail sky high... and two, we'd have to drop, or at least downplay, the scenes where Sunset cannot reach Twilight. Oh and
I guess this may not have happened... or it might've but differently.
Who knows.
In fact, I know. Because the last big change that was dropped was that Vinyl Scratch was supposed to interact with Lemon Zest!!Twilight instead decides to stay at Crystal Prep in order to make friends with the Shadow Bolt and become the secondary Mane 6. AKA Lemon Zest, Sour Sweet The girl I ship with Maud Sugarcoat, Sunny Flair and Indigo Zapp. Personally I think this is a much better ending because not only does to briefly show how much the two schools have made up (with a comment from Indigo stating how much better it feels) but also means that the Shadow Bolts may have their own story for future use. Not only that but Sunset used to be the "Twilight" of the group, but now with an actual Twilight there... IDK what do you guys think?
Basically, I hope that Hasbro decides to animate these and release it within the movie as a special edition. Kinda like Advent Children Complete. Instead this time with the different ending. If not then I hope someone edits them into the movie alternatively.

I'm actually fine with how the movie turned out. I have it in my head as-is that Sunset does miss Equestria, but she's in no rush to go home, and I'm happy that Sci-Twi is at CHS now rather than going back to Crystal Prep.
Let Sunset's homesickness be the focus of another film.

Actually, if you pay attention to the back while Twilight and Cadance are talking, Vinyl and Lemon can be seen enjoying some tunes.
And yeah, I kinda wish they'd kept those scenes in.

There was something i forgot to mention in this in this alt ending, Sunset makes a statement that she would've been going back to Equestria to make up with Celestia and meet Twilight personally. It's also canon that the portal is always open to her should she choose to visit.
I would have loved for those scenes to still be in :C
I mean maybe make some reconciliation between the two endings, but still. I liked the duet, cafe scene, and hallway scene. The fact that less than 10 minutes of content creates a whole extra Shimmer subplot, that wouldn't have destroyed the movie as it was now anyway, makes me a little sad.
But I guess it's balanced out by me being glad at least we get deleted scenes. As much as they aren't part of the official movie, at least they exist and I got to see them.

It sounds awesome, but thinking more on it I think it's actually better this way. For one, SunLight is way more plausible now.
I also think that Sunset being homesick deserves more than a subplot, it should be a central point to her story.

Yeah, I would have definitely preferred if Twilight stayed at Crystal Prep, for the same reason you mentioned, I think she'll steal the focus from Sunset. I also think they're trying like heck to avoid sending Sunset back to Equestria, because after what we've seen in this movie, there's a pretty good chance Sunset would return as an alicorn, and then all hell would break loose.
