Mike the Red

I do this just for fun -- but sometimes I take myself a little too seriously. I know life's too short, but -- you know...

    Back from the dead?

Just to let you know I'm back to some degree and working on a new story, which is more like two stories in one, alternate universes and such.
Also, I hope to receive more views and comments on the story.

    Possibly my last blog post

I don't want you to think I'm doing something rash, and I don't want folks to think I'm planning on leaving this world permanently --

I haven't been very active on this site for a long time, and I'm taking stock of what I've written (and what hasn't been published yet)
but I have decided to cancel some of the stories I started writing a long time ago but never got around to finishing.

    Finally

After more than a year and a half without home internet, I have finally managed to get it back.

It's also nice to not have to worry about someone looking over your shoulder trying to read what you're writing as well.

Living alone can have its advantages but also can get pretty lonely sometimes.

No, I am not seeking companionship, if that's what you're asking.

    Update

I have been dealing with life issues, along with playing a couple of games which have occupied a great deal of my time.
I have found it difficult to get my muse back, so many of my unfinished stories are gathering dust -- not to mention the fact that it's hard to write pony stuff with someone watching you over your shoulder (*cough* my GF *cough*).

Has it really been that long?

I find myself looking at my join date and also note the fact that I've been a member of this site for four years already...

I'm just amazed by how swiftly time passes.

I know I shouldn't but ...

I don't know what it is that sets some people off.

I decide to write a new story, even if it's just a spin-off of an earlier story -- and upon its approval, it picks up six very quick down-votes.

To add to that, a fair number of my other stories also picked up new down-votes, most likely from the folks who hated my work enough to peruse my library and tick off every story I've written, regardless of whether they chose to read them (or not, most likely).

I know there's a contingent of guys on this site who seem to take delight in causing mischief -- minions of Discord I'll call them -- but I would at least appreciate a small degree of consideration or an explanation better than "this sucks" if you're going to vote down my stuff.

I know my work can use improvement, but there's a difference between poorly executed story context and just plain bad writing -- there's an awful lot of that on this site and I would hope my work is not so offensive as to merit what I believe is unfair treatment.

as one who has read your work I can say this. First the heavy use of the multiverses makes things a bit confusing.

The blue aura thing when Michel became an alicorn doesn't make sense since neither Celestia or Luna ever had it when they took on other forms.

Maybe a bit more explaination on how putting on Chryssy's horn and crown turned him into an alicorn

perhaps Tasavir's deal with Nightmare Moon could be sprunced up. heck he could say. 'Look at those ponies, they have never met Celestia and barely heard of her. You can have a fresh start here.' And thus still end similary as it originally did there.

Heck I'm waiting to here what happened in that Equestria that Canterlot is in ruins and luna dead.. THough given the tech of Equestria Celestia would just need from samples from Nightmare Moon to have her sister back.

The main issue I have with your stories, is that characters are mostly plot conveniences. For instance, a thing that really itched me in About that car... was how Brenda is virtually used (by you writer) to get the point (seemingly to us readers) that the car is good enough to disregard its origin and nature (ie stop asking questions, to force suspension of disbelief). The effect is quite contrary, one does not uses characters to explain the story in that way, at least in the way you are portraying them. The issue is more prominent because they are kind-of flat. I sincerely won't remember your characters by more than 'those in that random OP transfomration guy story.'

It goes short to say that Mike is a Gary Stu, but that wouldn't be a problem (at least for most non picky readers) by a lack of true conflict. Common, give us some misdirection, let the characters be by themselves and make the plot take the turns it needs. I did some test and completely skimmed a chapter, I could still make sense of the next one and felt I did not miss much (too much recapitulation and no twists).

Feel not discouraged, its part of public sharing. It is not only for you ever since you press the submit button; people may not enjoy what you write and may express their discontent, especially if you take a trope/character/theme and make it the centre of many stories. That earns an instant downvote by them.

In the end, its is you writer the one who decides where to take your stories: to make deaf ears towards neigsayers or to take criticism in small doses. It is not really important, because, really, this is just a fanfiction site. Just have a positive mentality if you want to keep writing pony words, because motivation is hard. It is for the fun.

Here's something people should think about. Maybe it's that some stories confuse or confound people to think that something other people work hard at is that they are complete trash. Maybe discord is real and he thinks playing hooky is something he enjoys with messing people over.

Don't let little things bother you though, it's hard to write what feels good and what doesn't. I mean people often times get blackmailed for making books so great that others aren't as great. Look at bill gates, he's a windows geek and yet he doesn't share his money because of people making bad comments. Yeah sure he's rich that's because he doesn't want to be swindled to some poor person who think that work is but trash.

Make stories tell others to give positive feed back if you need help let people know and they just might. Look at my story, it's what I'm wanting to write but I would like a hand at people helping me out since, chaos forbids, my brain has so many ideas that people think they'd be steeling it from me. I say who give a flying turd I say build on that idea and expand don't take my word for it.
