Bronycon and More · 5:56pm Aug 16th, 2015
Bronycon was a lot of fun. The panels, downtown Baltimore and the harbor, and last but very much not least the people. Meeting folks who I've known so long online was quite a thing in and of itself, and for some of those people to be genuinely interested in me and appreciative of the comments I leave, it was a great experience. If my schedule and finances work out alright I am already planning on attending again next year.
And then Tuesday happened, first full day back after the plane flights home. I work on a collage campus (as a programmer for the IT department if anyone is curious) and we have a yearly pre-fall semester all staff and faculty meeting, probably a thousand or so people, enough to fill a reasonably sized ballroom. Standard sort of comments from the university president and various other figures on campus about the new year, various upcoming big projects, etc., mixed in with some awards.
There I am, watching as the awards go out, and out of the blue the president calls my name as one of the winners and suddenly I'm up on stage receiving an Annual Exceptional Performance Award. My sneaky boss who had put my name in for it even had some of my family there in the audience to watch. Got a lovely engraved plaque, a certificate, and a nice cash prize (though to be honest I think I would have preferred the year-long fixed assignment parking spot, those darn students just won't stay out of the faculty/staff lots *shakes cane*).
It has been a great August so far.
Also, watch and listen to this:
Congrats on the something-other-than-a-reserved-parking-spot!
Also, if I make it back to BronyCon next year, I want to talk to you more!
Congratulations!
Now to spend that money on more horses.
3324158 Thanks! And yeah, I definitely would have liked to talk with you more than just the one brief "nice to meet you" conversation.
3324176 I'm just going to consider it as having more or less paid for Bronycon.
Congratulations!!
Although I wasn't at Bronycon to tell you this, I figure I'll hop on the bandwagon of folks who got to say it to your face: seeing "djthomp commented on your story" is one of the things I look most forward to, so thank you for being awesome.
3324623 Thank you, two times over!
Yesssss
3326239 Thanksssss
3324623 This, what Crystal said.
I still can't believe I was sitting next to you at dinner and didn't notice (double face hoof!!!) I'm glad I ran into you again at Quills and Sofas.
3327474 Thanks to you as well!
I'm kind of appalled that I didn't notice either, but I'm glad we had a chance to chat on Sunday.
That reminds me, I should catch up on the latest Quizzical story...
