800 Followers; An Unimportant Blog Post

I don't know WHY 800 people have chosen to follow me. I've been a member since march 2012 and I don't feel like I've learned anything. I mean, in the technical grammatical sense I suppose I have, less typos, or at least I catch them before I publish more often. But like, quality wise? I feel like it's only gotten worse. Who would read anything I've written and think "Man I hope this guy publishes

    Feedback on an opener?

Can I get your opinions on an intro to a chapter? Something about it isn’t sitting right with me and I can’t place it. The setting is Twilight Sparkle in the middle of a hardcore study session.

    Here it is:

A lost friend. · 7:28am Jul 19th, 2015

A desk covered in paperwork. That is the simple object that had soaked up so much of Celestia’s morning, and it seemed hellbent of soaking even more time into the papers that it supported. She’d been putting it off again, and now she had to waste an entire day to take care of it, rather than the couple spare minutes a day it would take for her to fill them out as they came.

So it was with great relief when Captain Shining Armor disturbed the peace with a knock, following the noise into the room shortly thereafter. Celestia looked up from the papers with happiness in her heart, but a simple gentle smile on her face. “Hello Captain, what brings you to my quarters?”

“I’m sorry Your Highness, I would have liked to wait for permission, but this is very time sensitive.” Said the captain with practiced respect and calm, almost in contrast to the actual words he had spoken.

“You are excused Captain, what is the emergency?”

“Well Ma’am it seems you have a visitor at the castle doors. It’s a… well…” Celestia waited as Shining Armor fought his way through the sentence. “Nobody's quite sure what it is Ma’am. It stands about eight feet tall and is covered in bumps, bruises and scars. We can’t quite get a definitive on the skin color of the creature, due to the purple bruises, the red of exposed muscles and the black of infected wounds. Some of the men have already given up their lunches to the latrine at the sight Ma’am.”

Celestia nodded once, suspecting she knew what was being talked about, but not knowing for sure. “Any word on how it got to Canterlot in the first place? Did it take a train?”

“Well, if you believe the pegasus guards, it apparently climbed the mountain up. Ever since it got to the castle gate it has been asking nonstop to see, and I quote it when I say this Ma’am, “Little Cute Princess Tia.”

What Shining Armor had expected the princess to respond with was not what he got. Instead, the desk filled with paperwork was thrown aside telekinetically as Celestia darted out of the, still open, door to her room. Shining Armor followed after a few moments of silent confusion. He found her at the gate of the castle, where the strange creature had started to attempt to climb over, only for the guards to keep it at bay with several javelins and spears.

OPEN THE GATES!” Celestia’s voice roared, loud as thunder. It grabbed the attention of every guard, each of whom glanced only briefly at the speaker before going about their new orders with haste. They rushed to the various stations, knowing that at least now the princess would no doubt have a plan to take care of the situation. The unicorns lowered the locking spells and the pegasi and earth ponies moved to the winches. None of them had to work long as just when the smallest opening appeared in the door the creature forced it open wide as it could go.

It charged through and all the ponies turned to see how Celestia would face the monster. It closed the distance faster and faster, until not more than a pony length was between them. Then, just as it was ready to trample her, the monster scooped the princess up into it’s large wounded arms.

“LITTLE CUTE PRINCESS TIA!” The monster hollared. “ToothGrin not think see small friend again! Miss you with ALL troll heart!”
