Greetings everyone! now it has just occured to me that while reading Path_of_clouds Eternal, which u should go read after this, is that while it is very unique and great story, there seems to be an unwritten bible that most of these Sparity's seem to follow. seriously, Dragon's Bane, Diamonds aren't forever, even my own For the ones we love seem to follow the same general rules, with of course major differences in development and plot, but for the sake of doing something (will get back to writing hopefully after this,) i give you the guidelines for making a decent Sparity:
Step 1: grown up Spike is best Spike!
Now, Mr. cloud (Path_of_cloud) made a very good arguement that age doesnt matter when true love is involved, and that ppl who think thatyoung spike and rarity cant be together should go look in the mirror and bash their head into it. that being said, people seem to go for the grown up spike rather than the young one. it hust seems to be a bit of a thing. it also allows for all canon show stuff to be in past tense as a memory, and when new stuff is added, unless MLP:FIM decides to do a in the future episode, grown up spike can be whoever the hell you want him to be.... anyways long story short, your spike doesnt have to be an adult, but it usually goes down better, especially since.....
Step 2: kick his ass!
I think all sparity writers secretly hate spike, cause i've noticed that within the first three chapters, spike is usually hospitalized. be it diamond dogs, other dragons, a migrane, or a raondom earthquake that was comepletly uncalled for and random. the point is, spike needs to have a near death experiance within the first bit or your doing something wrong. and it makes thing all the more sweeter for....
Step 3: i love you rarity <3
yes, after the nearly dieing, it seems to be the push to get spike (or rarity) to confess that they love each other, even though it is usually quite clear that they do love each other and step 2 is really to play up the suspence for step 3. the whole i love you scene will 9 out of 10 times happen at a party, the exception being eternal, who shakes it up nicely by haveing it AFTER the party. and to still basically have it at a difernt party. in the end, regardless were you have him or her or both confess their love, its important that you do it.
Step 4: Shit hits the fan
so you have grown up spike all grown up, he just told rarity that he loves her at that party after almost getting killed for the millionth time. happy ending right? HELL NO! we're just getting started! thats right, cause there is a thrid party that wants nothing more than to make these two lives as miserable as possible. be it a cult, curse, catastrophe, conquest, or something else that starts with a C. it will usually have the couple going through some sort of crazy trail or war or something, and chances are that Spike will visist step 2 a few times by the time it is done.
Step 5: I am Rarity!
most sparity's of the EPIC catogory, the one i am explaining, tend to follow spike a little more than rarity. no idea why...... but just remember that she is there, she is feeling these things too, and she is just as important as spike, even if she sometimes takes a back seat in a few chapters.... im probably the bigest offender.
Step 6: Finale
the most flexible step of them all, as all stories must end, this is comepletly up to you, they can have their classic 'happily ever after' and have like a million babies that are either cute or ugly as sin. or you can have one of them die..... i like this option myself >:) or they can all die and everyone is pissed off. dont do that last one.
i will repeat this again. THIS IS NOT TRUE FOR EVERY SPARITY, JUST A LITTLE TREND THAT I SAW POPPING UP.
if you actually take what i have said to heart, or feel that i missed a cliche, feel free to tell me. i hope that this helps any of you struggling writers that wanted to write something, then why not write a story on the greatest couple in fimfiction: tom and woodbury (i mean spike and rarity........ or luna x everyone)

As for step 5, you jump back and forth a lot. Spike is the one who has the insane dude in his head, and has to defeat him. He probably should be a little more centered.

in my story yes, there is a crazy guy in spikes head, but we can never forget that there is no Sparity, without the rarity
