    If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

    This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

    So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

    Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

    So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

Something This Way Comes by Albert Manhattan

An interesting story. Basically the three fates/witches show up in Canterlot to proclaim prophecy/blessing/curse over the newborn Twilight Sparkle. Another pretty good but not great story from this author. The prose could be polished up a bit, but the actual story is neat.

Just Like Dash by Albert Manhattan

I thought this was really good. Best story by this author so far. Or at least the one I liked the most. Long time readers of the blog may have the opinion that quality of a story has little to no relation to how much I liked it. Still, I would say this is pretty good writing. Is the first one that the abbreviated start actually works. I didn’t feel like this needed more buildup and it turned out to be a pretty neat cutie mark story from Scootaloo. A nice simple slice of life in future Equestria. One or two of the scene transitions could have been better, but that’s about the only real compliant I’ve got. I would probably recommend this as the story to start with when recommending this author.

Fun adventure story. Nothing too complex, but I enjoyed it. Plus it has a wonderful last line. Doesn’t hit the tone exactly, but could easily be adapted to be an episode of the show.

Dinky's First Kill by PresentPerfect
[story link] [my original review]

I’ve heard good things about this story and I have to say that it lives up to the (minor) hype I’ve run into. A very well written story. Simple, but perfect length and scope. I’d recommend this to just about anyone. This story really captures the whole irrational fear thing, even if Dinky doesn’t understand that it is irrational yet. I’m not scare of spiders, but I recognized the same thought patterns as something I’ve experienced with some of my own phobias.

Life Gives You Apples by TheVulpineHero1

Huh. That was interesting. A bunch of tiny little 100 word bits. So condensed each one is practically poetry. I liked it. Each little chapter did a pretty good job at evoking the scene so what unfolds in the reader’s head is more than what is actually on the page.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
