After the events at Winsome Falls, Scootaloo had thought her night terrors were over. But again and again, she keeps seeing the same things.

The rustling in the trees.

A talking forest in her dreams.

Timberwolves, always at the edges of her sight.

Just what in the hay is going on? Will Scootaloo ever have a good night's sleep again?

I, for one, would love to see this expanded. Or at least a sequel.

Scootaloo is the Lorax! She speaks for the trees!

Also, with such plant powers, she's probably the world's best Vampony hunter. Throw a few thousand stakes at one and you're bound to hit the heart, or at least make the poor blood sucker wish you had.

I really enjoyed this

I love it and I hope to see a series but that would be up to you.

Always good to see more stuff from you! Scootaloo is bestaloo

That was excellent.

And this is clearly a power set that Scoots needs to work on, we're talking like actual superhero abilities here. Or at the very least, really awesome scooter tricks.

Who needs to fly when the trees will build roads in the sky for you?

Do not take this as any kind of promise, but I do have an idea for a sequel. Just don't expect it to ever happen and we'll be good.

Good enough for me.:pinkiehappy:

Well, this is certainly an interesting variation. Thank you for it. And the ending was perfect.

And she'll never have to worry about a house. Jokes about bird nests, maybe, but not a house.

This is a nice story.

Fulfilled her destiny but still didn't get a cutie mark.

Bad Luck Brian approves!

I kept on expecting Scootaloo to be or be related to Slendermare.

That would be incredibly unoriginal.

This story was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, what stuck out most in my mind is a complaint. There was one line so bad it almost thrust me out of the story.

"Hey Scootaloo," Apple Bloom said quietly as they followed their sisters back toward the library, "what're those you been havin' dreams like?"

These words are out of order. That, or you have a questionable take on Applebloom's dialect.

By the way, the second most sticking-out bit is the mental image of Rainbow Dash's toilet floating away into the sky. These are the two things I will most remember about this story: a bad line from Apple Bloom, and Rainbow Dash's toilet floating away into the sky.

Holy shit, that's a hell of an error. :O Thank you.

And if the toilet is the most salient image, I have done my job well. :3

This feels like a really cool superhero origins story. I loved the creepiness of it, and I would definitely read a sequel.

Scootaloo: "I want to be a princess. The Princess of the Forest! I SPEAK FOR THE TREES!"
Twilight: "Oookay. And.. Why is there a reason I should enoble you?"
Scootaloo: "I can make your tree grow back. WITH MY MIND."
Twilight: "Welcome to Princesshood Scoots! Heres your complimentary horn! Now lets talk about some renovations to my tree.."

Stories. You start out with a weird random idea, and get a deep and complex plot line. :ajbemused:

I LOVE IT!!!:pinkiegasp:

Wow, that was actually really cool, and pretty funny. I'd love to see a sequel for this.

And in the sequel she gets a cutie mark for pyromania.

There should be an Awesom tag on the site. Just for this story.

All hail the Branch Lord!

I guess Scoots just needs to branch out more to get her cutie mark.

Did Scootaloo just turn into the Equestrian version of Poison Ivy? :scootangel:

She certainly has turned over a new leaf in her life

Haha, oh yeah. Started out a little slow, almost made me wonder if it was supposed to be a horror story. But it turned awesome in short order.

And yes, this has plenty of sequel potential. Or possibly just callbacks in other stories, those are fun too.

The title grabbed me, the cover image really helped, but the first paragraph had to be struggled through. Glad I did, though, because the rest of this story was fun times with colorful writing. My only real complaint is that it felt rushed and a bit trite to have the CMC suddenly in the forest and Scootaloo suddenly in total command of the branches hero-style with talk of "destiny."

My favorite bit was probably when Twilight came up for air from beneath the books, personally.

This is a really cool story! Scootaloo that is able to control branches? I can totally dig that! :scootangel:
Though, the comedy in this story is very subtle, so I'm not sure if the comedy tag is warranted.
And you should add a dark tag, because some parts are very creepy and horrific.
I like this story, there's just one issue I have with it:

"How do you think pegasi are able to walk on clouds and make weather? Let alone fly."

Pegasi don't fly with magic, they only use magic for walking on clouds and to control weather.
If you don't believe that, look at "Hurricane Fluttershy", "Wonderbolts Academy", "Rainbow Falls" and "Equestria Games".
In all these episodes, we saw pegasi training the muscles in their wings. They wouldn't do that if they had to rely on magic to be able to fly.

Far too many better equipped than I for analysis have shown that, as they are, pegasi are neither proportioned correctly nor aerodynamic enough for flight. Thus, as gravity, friction and momentum help us to run and runners exercise their muscles to run faster, pegasus wings, when exercised, will allow them to fly faster and longer with fewer cramps through the air. Which they are able to do in the first place because of magic.

Or, you can call it a difference of headcanon. :)

Far too many better equipped than I for analysis have shown that, as they are, pegasi are neither proportioned correctly nor aerodynamic enough for flight.

To be honest, I never saw such analysis anywhere. I only hear some bronies here and there say that it is impossible that pegasi can fly in the first place because their wings are too small and that they can only fly with magic because of that.
I'm not sure if analyzings like this really exist or if this is just the collective mind of some in the fandom about this specific issue.
Anyway, in the end, it's all about size of the wings and strength.
If the wings are big enough (and they are, in some shots we have seen that their wings are gigantic, at least with Rainbow Dash) and if they are strong enough, aerodynamics and proportions are not really important.
Maybe there's a drag in the air when the body isn't shaped perfectly, but with strong and big enough wings they can simply overcome it.
The bigger force always wins at the end, after all.
And how strong their wings really are is something we don't know.
But judging on it that these are flying horses, they must be extremely strong to lift their body up and only can be so.

Thus, as gravity, friction and momentum help us to run and runners exercise their muscles to run faster, pegasus wings, when exercised, will allow them to fly faster and longer with fewer cramps through the air. Which they are able to do in the first place because of magic.

It's a bit far-fetched that it should work this way.
When there muscles are responsible for it to let them fly faster and longer, due to training, then they would also be responsible to lift them up in the first place, because with enough muscle strength they can do both, flying faster and longer as well as overcome gravity.
Remember, the bigger force wins.
Or, if we look at it the other way round, if magic would make them be able to fly into the air in the first place, it would also help them to fly fast and long, so that they wouldn't need training in the first place.
A combination of magic and muscle power is way too far-fetched, it's either one or the other.
And that it isn't magic, but their muscle strength, is proven since "Hurricane Fluttershy".

Or, you can call it a difference of headcanon. :)

Yes, a headcanon, and I'm long enough in this fandom to having figured it out by now, that some desperately cling to them after they got disproved. :derpytongue2:

Poor Scootaloo, she's really pineing for her cutie mark, isn't she? I hope she finds it soon, I'm really rooting for her. Alas, I fear she's still barking up the wrong tree. :pinkiecrazy:

Seriously though, this was a fun little short. The title was particularly clever.

Keep up the good work!

I feel like this would have worker better as an adventure fic, as aside from the last sentence I didn't find it to be all the funny.

Aside from that, really solid CMC story.

Here's my head canon (I've only been here for six months, so I'm about four years behind the class)

The feathers are where the magic manifests (and the hoof), so pegasi are able to control air currents. So,training to improve agility and endurance translates into more imperessive aerial displays.

Now, regarding Scoots, my take away from this story is that she does not have the full endowment of pegasi magic in her feathers, but instead that has manifested in a rare earth pony ability, thus she is the Branch Manager.

And I do think there is a strong argument for Scoots having some earth pony magic being canon. Alicorns!, and Twis acenscion.

Sequel Please!

Was anyone else reminded of the forest scene from the first Evil Dead movie when Scootaloo was having her nightmare?

4637662
4638479
You're both wrong! Their muscles produce the magic, which, in turn, makes their bones lighter, and able to withstand more damage than any other pony types! Well, except for Alicorns, that is. Which is why Rainbow Dash can smash into stuff like she does!

6588564

......

At this point, it's just funny anymore. I wouldn't have expected that I have to say that this fandom is "substituting reality with its headcanons" a second time today (though, to be fair, in the first case of today, it could have been a person with multiple accounts).

Something hard and wooden snaked against her flank, and she screeched, leaping into the air. The branch curled around her right hind leg, lifting her.

Was anyone else reminded of Evil Dead right here?
