"Get yer news he'ar! Get yer news!" Cries the newspony from the corner of Blog Street.
"Read all about it! Dashes of Life to Continue. The Last Vacation update news!"
Ahem.
Dashes of Life
So. Yes. Dashes of Life, the new story I released today is being continued. I even have a shiny new 750 words on a second chapter already penned down just this afternoon. What's coming next? Life, unscripted. Sort of. This isn't going to turn into a drama-fest like reality TV, but it is going to be more coherent coming on down the line. I learned a lot, writing the first chapter, and I think I know what did and didn't work quite as well as I'd hoped, but I have hope for a few things:
1. That the camera perspective will let me explore a story and the lives of the characters in ways that are far more flexible than a limited third person, yet more immersive than an omniscient third. This isn't precisely a first person story, though the viewpoint character is arguably the camera and thus telling everything it sees.
2. That the camera perspective will let me shake things up a little bit. A lot of the beginning story was told in between the lines. In little snippets of dialogue and characters glimpsed 'on screen' for brief periods of time. However, it is not a true camera perspective. It doesn't record everything so that a reader gets bogged down in detail. It may also be argued that the perspective is an unnamed and unknown person watching the films, so enraptured by them (hah, sure) that their life does not intrude onto their watching except during the odd little breaks.
3. That this will be a fresh kind of way to experience and write a story. I like experimenting, no surprise there, I think. The camera forces me to keep to certain rules. I can't exposit except where natural dialogue allows and can only infer backstory through that and what is seen and heard by the camera. It really tests me to tell the story I want through description, action, and dialog alone.
The Last Vacation
This update is being worked on, I promise. I had to scrap a bit of outline when I realized that it wasn't going to mesh in very well with all that is to come after this story is finished, so there's a bit of recalculation and replanning going on at the moment, so it may be a bit of a delay before I complete making the changes in this chapter. But things are going to be... interesting, I hope. With Sunset being introduced fully as a character last chapter (the last plot turning point in the story before the climax and conclusion), things are going to pick up a bit as things start happening again and the changes to Twilight's once-quiet life shift into higher gear.
I hate you. I have enough to read already without more Noble Thought awesomeness!
tracking for now.
How many chapters do you see this being?
3179466
I'm not actually sure how many chapters it's going to be. I know where it ends, and how it ends. I know the general course of their lives through the story, but the specifics are generally filled in along the way.
Maybe as long as The Last Vacation will be when it ends. 13-14ish chapters. Maybe more, because I do plan on them being shorter. Restrictions of the format and whatnot.
