F^$k Action Scenes. (Not really). · 4:31am Jun 12th, 2015

Dear Dahlings.

Happy Thursday ery one. You know what's a pain to write, action scenes. Well good action scenes. Truth of the matter is this problem has been plaguing me all day, so much so that I actually paused to take a look at a fic that I've been meaning to read that looked like it would be chalk full of action. That fic being Vigilante. Needless to say, not only am I not cured of my writers block ( not because of the fic mind you) but I now have a few new nightmares to deal with ( completely because of the fic), but seriously check dis stuff, it's early in the series and I'm quite excited to see where this puppy goes.

Anywhozer, now you find me here, writing a blog in order to fish for some tips on creating a good action sequence. I am aware that I have done a few action sequences in the past, but I can honestly say that I had a lot more steam for this puppy. Oh well, I'm probably going to wake up early tomorrow and try to work out the rest of the chapter.

Hugs and more hugs.
Yours Truly, The Cake Devil.

P.S. Is every one hyped for Fallout and Jurassic Park 4-I mean-World?!

P.S.S How is Civ 5 treating you Weakill Linkton?

I took a break from writing. You called me out in your blog post. Yay. Don't I feel special.

Yeah, I can't write good action scenes. Or sex scenes. Or banter. Or the third person as a whole. Or first person HiE. Or words.

I would be more hyped for Fallout if I had a next gen console, or a computer with the specs to handle it. Eh. It's fine. I have another game that's taking all of my time, you son of a bitch. Not too long after I make a blog post about how I'm going to have tons of free time, you get me Civ 5, you god fucking damn shit mother bitch fucker. I don't even know what I just typed. I'm tired. I've been writing for a couple hours straight, and should get back to it soon, but not until I end my rant.

It's consumed 45 hours of my life, I just checked it on my Steam. I don't even know how that's possible.

I downloaded pony mods. I played as Celestia for a while, and the Aztecs kept harassing me (seriously, fuck the Aztecs, fuck Greece when I'm not playing the Greeks because otherwise woot go Greece, fuck the French, and FUCK the Ottomans) but where our territories met was a total bottleneck, so he just kept declaring war and then pussing out. I then saved the game, changed the game to fullscreen, and why I tried to load it back up, the save was broken. That was something like seven hours of my life.

Also, Chrysalis was in that game. She was at the bottom of every statistic. She fucking sucks. I tried playing as her. It fucking sucked. The Persians and English were relentless.

And now I'm trying to pump out a chapter, which is only 3,131 words right now, and I can't stop thinking about how much Civ 5 fucked me over. Goddammit, you shit eating asshole.

...I love you. The game is fucking awesome.

Jurrastic World looks trite. The idea of animals having human like intelligence and fucking over humanity has been done before. I can't actually think of examples right now because my mind's a blur, but I'm sure it's been done to death.

Wait, yeah, PLANET OF THE MOTHERFUCKING APES. I just typed that, and this sentance, as I was about to finish that comment.

The trailers made it look dumb, especially with that bitch that thought the dinosaurs couldn't possibly be smart. I'm in highschool and I'm not that fucking stupid. She's supposed to be a fucking adult. I'm typing fuck a lot. It's a nice word.

It's 2:31 AM. Still writing. Still tired. FML YOLO GETTING BACK TO IT.

Edit: 5 AM. Done. Shared it on Google Docs. Just a warning, it might not be all that you expected the long awaited chapter to be, and that's completely intentional. Let's just say I left some holes that are up to the reader to fill in. Anyways, I'm really fucking tired. Going to bed now.

As far as action scenes go, one of the most important things is flow and attention to detail. Things have to be kept short enough that it feels like the scene is moving really fast, and try to keep exposition, and explanations to a minimum. You can have a lot of fun with dialogue in action scenes if there are two main people fighting. Lot of room for wit and arguments.

But, irregardless of dialogue, try to remember to include the specifics of the action/fight so it doesn't sound abstract or generic. Say you want Dipper to smash a timberwolf in half, try to include a reference point, like a specific area, tree, rock or other landmark, although briefly, so the readers know exactly where this is happening.

While this more applies to fight scenes than just action scenes, also remember to always clue the reader in to who's winning or what the status of power is at the moment, since that's how they'll be thinking of the fight. If some action gets taken during the fight scene that doesn't change the status, (unless it preserves the status quo in a subversive or unusual way) it will probably be seen as not moving the story forward.

Just my two cents on the matter.

As for Jurassic world, it looks fantastic. The Hype Is REAL! Can't wait to see it.

Oh and did you hear? Gravity Falls is gonna be back on July 13 with "A Tale of Two Stans" A flashback episode from the looks of it!
