Some thoughts. Your opinions? · 7:40am Jun 7th, 2015
It was midway through Season Three when I wrote the last few chapters of Isaac's Storm. Since then, show canon has pretty much overwritten a great majority of the concepts I wanted to explore with the story. Primarily, I refer to Isaac's 'base of operations' in Golden Oaks Library being sort of completely obliterated by Tirek, Twilight becoming official royalty and thus bypassing some of Celestia's roles in the story, the castle in the Everfree being more thoroughly explored (though ironically actually strongly canonizing some ideas I had in mind for it! But I disgress) and the history and culture of Equestria being more cast-in-stone, per se, making some of my invented ideas seem less plausible. Bear in mind I came up with the story itself before Season Two even aired.
Don't get me wrong, I actually love the direction the show seems to have taken, and I'm certainly not complaining about anything. Season Four is definitely my favorite season of pone thus far, and I am enjoying the current season immensely. Seeing the Season Five premiere live at BABScon in San Francisco with two thousand other excited people was one of the greatest moments of my life. But story-wise, I can't work with certain things that are now quite canon without discarding and completely re-tooling the story. Which, honestly, might make for a far more entertaining read, as I've got an entire (spectacularly awesome) season and a half of ideas, concepts, characters, and locations to work with. But I've already invested nearly four years of mental tinkering to come up with what I do have, so I don't really want to go that route at this particular venture.
What say ye? Shall I attempt to continue this story, with the disclaimer that it is only accurate to the canon until near the end of season three, or abandon it and maybe focus on writing a currently relevant story if I ever feel like starting anew? Isaac's Storm is really not an especially good or original story, and the first three chapters are abysmal, but if there is still any interest at all after the two-year writing hiatus, I am interested in perhaps finishing it, as I have plenty of free time in between construction work and conventions to write should I feel motivated. Your opinions matter!
(And still, two years later, Flitter and CC remain best ponies. Who'd have thought?)
