Workshop straw poll · 2:34am May 22nd, 2015
Writing is notorious for being a solitary activity, the truth is that it doesn't always have to be that way. Some of the best experiences I've had with writing is in helping others and hearing back from people on what I can do to improve. And sometimes it's just good to talk to other writers about writing. I have a few places that I go to for help or advice when I need it, and I couldn't imagine trying to tackle as much as I do without that kind of support.
So I had an idea: who would like to set up a virtual workshop?
For those of you who don't know, a writer's workshop is a place for writers to give and receive feedback on each other's work. Ideally workshops are held face-to-face in a cafe or somewhere nice, but there are free virtual services out there (such as tiny chat) that allow for webcam and audio-only discussions. The next best thing for meeting in person.
The workshop would go something like this: we'd show up, talk while we give people a chance to trickle in, take turns reading our work (out loud for the group) and receiving feedback. It'd run for a few hours, and while I'd encourage people to stay for the duration, people would be free to drop in and out.
I haven't written any pony for over a year now, so this wouldn't exactly be a fan fiction exclusive thing. In fact, I'd encourage those of you with original fiction and non-fiction to bring those works (if you're interested in improving them) to the workshop.
Nothing is set in stone at this time; this is just a straw poll to gage interest and start a discussion about the merits or pitfalls of trying such an idea. Leave a comment in the section below if you have any thoughts.
Namaste and have an excellent day!
Imagine a future where Skype features video conferencing via invite code and not utterly annoying profile searching. Just imagine.
That sounds interesting.
Sounds interesting. I got Skype, so I could easily partake...yes, believe it or not I am a writer.

Okay, just wanted to let you guys know, but I'm still gathering some people together for the workshop. Those of you interested, just hang tight and with some luck and a little determination this should all come together soon.
