General Information -- The Equestrian Field Guide -- Someday This May Take Off...Could it Be Soon? · 3:49am May 16th, 2015
So it's been a bit since I've just rambled off a normal ol' blog post, talking about the same ol', same ol'. How I always want to do better, yadda, yadda, yadda... You've heard it all before. Well, it is what it is, heh. So what's up with PC as of late?
Well, I actually have been focusing a little better and slowly getting a few things closer to a finish. I mean, had to get sick of myself enough eventually and start actually finishing things. Some of you may actually be surprised if you saw the stupid number of stories I have started at various points. I can't bloody help it! Too much inspires! Good lord.
I've also been keeping a lot of focus on my original stuff. As time goes on, I really do need to put more and more focus on that. But there are still plenty of stories I want to tell here (so many stories), and will do so, no matter how long that'll take.
The Games go decently. Not the views like I'd really want, voting is weak on some pairings, but it's not a failure. And hell, I think we're having fun at least. Two more pairings, and then Round 1 will officially be over! I know I'm looking forward to the next round, certainly. As people are eliminated, the best (as chosen by you, o' readers, of course) will only be more determined to keep moving, meaning better product for you, o' readers. As well as forcing us to pull out the stops.
I'm going to hopefully actually complete my entry for the Writeoff contest coming up. I came up with an idea juuuust a couple hours too late, last time. And while I felt it was a funny idea, it was somewhat meta to the prompt, so I don't think it'd really work as just normal ol' fiction. I am probably way over my head in regards to this, but still. Fingers crossed I might actually do alright. It'll be cool, trying to muscle with some of the tops. At the least, I'll learn something. And that's worth the price of admission, for sure.
Joined in on Obs' OC Slamjam. It'll be curious to see how this one goes, since it's not combat focused, as well as requiring shorter entries. Obviously I must stay mum on my character for the moment, but I'm actually kind of pleased with him. If you joined in, I also wish you the best of luck! And expect to see at least one short involving my new character probably within the next couple weeks--and maybe up to six different ones, if I do well. ...buuuut I don't see myself winning. I'm hoping for final four. I'll be super pleased with that, at least.
I am tentatively going to break my focus for something a little different. I know I told myself I wanted to finish more of my stories that I've started, and I will, but this idea is so different for me. I don't want to give out too much, except that I'll say it's a crossover idea. Not something I'd ever think I would do. I'm curious as to how these stories are usually done--anybody out there who does crossovers got any advice? What I think I might try and do is have a few days a week be free for all; I can write any of the two three stories I've decided to focus upon. One or two days for collab stuff (I'm looking at you Album 2; I know you're just or waiting for me). And then one day a week for this story, since it might come to be pretty serious for me. It's gonna involve a relatively new property that I just absolutely love--not even kidding, I saw four minutes of it and knew I had to devour it all as soon as possible. And I think, in some ways, the two fit together fairly well.
So now for my usual rigamarole of doing too much on the collab front, but bah! No, what it mostly is just the fact that I was just looking over some old stuff, and I reread some of my old Equestrian Field Guide stuff. This is a project I was so excited about, and there was some turn out at the time... But really not all that much and no real follow through. It's still an idea I would like to see go through. That I would really, really like to see through.
The general structure would be as a Field Guide to Equestria, containing all sorts of information on flora, fauna, and other specific items of interest and danger within the nation. Each author would take one or more entries and write them as an in-universe researcher doing it for the Guide. One part would be the information, detailing and building a bit of meat around the stuff we've seen in the show. The next would be an actual bit of story; a legend, an eyewitness account, something/anything involving the creature itself. I just think this would be a really neat product, and a fun exercise in general. I just need some other people to get involved with me on it, heh.
So that's me. And I just looked up who my first opponent in the OC Slamjam is... Think I might have an easy start to this, heh, if the character is anything to judge.
Welp, I'm off. Take care, all!
