New Stories On The Way! · 9:07pm May 14th, 2015
Hey there, gang!
I figured I'd drop a few nuggets here about my plans for upcoming stories, so let's get right to the action!
Story X
I just submitted this one, now better known as "Starlight Glimmer, Tomb Raider," to the FimFic moderators for approval, so with any luck it'll be posted later today! The story is a—
Whoa, whoa, whoa, back it up there, GA. This story's tagged as "Adventure," and it reads like all the other boring stories you've written. Didn't you tell Piquo Pie you were going to try writing something different for a change?
Give me a minute, I'm getting to that! ...But yes, I owe the good people of Fimfiction an explanation for this.
You see, just like Brad Paisley in "Crushin' It," I've been in a dry spell thus far in 2015:
-Fleximare and the Deranged Doctor was a total flop, failing to crack 60 views in over 3 months.
-She Got Game was a bit of a rebound, but was met with a resounding "meh" from the community at large.
In fact, you could argue that my drought started much earlier: Ever since MKE (which has been getting a ton of views lately, probably due to the start of Season 5 and the release of Mortal Kombat X), I've been stuck in a Comedy/Slice-of-Life rut, and the results speak for themselves: Nothing I've written—not Grounded, not LLOD, not anything—has struck a chord with people the way my crossover did.
Because of this, Piquo suggested that I start pushing the envelope with respect to every aspect of my stories: Different genres, different characters, dynamic plots that you can't predict just from reading the story's front page, etc.
I like the idea, and I shall do it! ...Unfortunately, I also really wanted to jump into the "Cutie Map" Writer's Training Ground event, and none of my crazy ideas matched up with this week's prompt. I changed things up a little (it's my first story with Starlight Glimmer and Daring Do, and it's the first story that's forced me to pull out my old Dungeon Master hat and think about trap designs), but otherwise, it reads like the rest of my stuff. That's not to say it's a bad story; it's just that I'm not expecting a whole lot out of it.
However, this just sets me up for...
Story XI
I went back and forth between two ideas that had been sitting in my queue for a while (one Dark, one Random), and I decided to go with the latter. I'm about 1,000 words into it right now, and honestly, this is the most bizarre, off-the-wall thing I've ever written. I don't even think MKE went this far out on a limb.
The tale is tentatively titled "An Angel From Above," which should give you an indication of who the star will be. I don't have much more to say about this one, but I'm planning on a June release right now.
(...Oh, and that Dark idea's coming someday too, but it's looking like a longer fic, so I'll probably procrastinate on that a while longer.)
Anyway, that's the news from around here. Thanks for reading!
