Declassified 3 - The Infestation · 1:28am Apr 2nd, 2015
This was one of my attempts at writing another character. Apple Bloom, leader and co-founder of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, amateur apple-bucker, and ambitious filly. Honestly, I found her easy to write, at least when it came to her views on her status as the youngest sibling. Anything else came off as a challenge.
Declassification commencing...
The story occurs after “Twilight’s Kingdom”, sometime in the fall. *Season 4 lasts from Summer 1003 to Summer/Fall 1004, taking into account the hinted points in time mentioned in certain episodes and the G.M. Barrow books.
Originally, Granny Smith was to fight off the wasps utilizing a form of ninjitsu, which she dubbed “Fly Kwan Do”, and later claiming it was a technique she developed as a teen when Ponyville suffered a wider spread infestation. Applejack would be furious with Granny not telling them about Fly Kwan Do, while Apple Bloom contemplated on Granny’s wisdom and sanity.
Apple Bloom’s sassiness, as claimed by Scootaloo in “Somepony To Watch Over Me”, is referenced by Granny. Said episode is heavily referenced in the story, as are the episodes “The Stare Master” and “The Cutie Mark Chronicles”, albeit indirectly.
Exactly what it says on the tin: Consuela is named after the maid from Family Guy.
“The more you know” is a nod to the Emmy-winning PSA segments aired on NBC.
Apple Bloom says “git ‘r done”. This phrase is frequently associated with Larry the Cable Guy and the redneck community.
When about to force open the window seat, Applejack says “Hold on to your butts.” Mr. Arnolds, played by Samuel L Jackson, utters the iconic line in Jurassic Park.
After Apple Bloom sprays the nest, her narrations states “It was over. We won.” This nearly echoes Walter White’s line at the end of the Breaking Bad episode “Face Off”.
When the wasps attack, Apple Bloom shouts “Run, run away!” This line was made famous by Demyx in Kingdom Hearts II.
Granny Smith shouts “Great Gatsby!” A reference to the literary classic.
“Holy Toledo!” was another exclamation I meant to put in there, but forgot to do so. This is Pokey’s catchphrase from the classic Gumby cartoons.
Scootaloo’s brother up in the Crystal Empire is Flash Sentry, who has a love for Neighsian (Asian) culture. This is a concept originally intended for the Winningverse Flash-Lightning one-shots, but has since been abandoned.
Next time, "Declassified 4 - Forward", Lightning Dust's moment of redemption.
