Weekly Update - One Year of Fimfiction · 4:37am Mar 4th, 2015

Cadance Picture

So, here I am. Delivering a weekly update. I don't have much to update on. Something You'd Regret part 4 is at 3100 words and I need to probably double it. This next part is important and I want to make sure I do it correctly. I hope I can get it out by the coming weekend. I can't guarantee it. For those who want an explanation, they can read on, but that pretty much assesses the limits of this story update.

Soon after I release this, It'll be March 5th. One year since I first opened my Fimfiction account. I remember sitting back and thinking to myself on that night, sitting alone in my basement: 'This is a bad idea. People are going to hate my stories.'

Hate is a strong word. That blue arrow is Dreamscape

Now here I am, still doing the thing I love. However, I'm even more determined than ever to write a story that readers can consider a masterpiece. Something on the same scale and magnitude of many of the other great HiE fics that have came before me and still can be made. However, this July will begin my third year of writing (Two completed years) and I think there are a lot of new things I would like to go forward with and try in the future months.

Do people like me yet?

First things First: Something You'd Regret, Adopting Fluttershy, and Office Love will be finished in 2015. If it's the last thing I ever do on this site, it will be to finish those. (Don't read into that too hard, I'm here to stay)

Once those are done, I'll be pursuing several possible possibilities for the next story. Most of which are possible sequels to stories I have already made. However, I believe it may be time for a little bit of a change of scenery.

There are two major things I would like to try as I continue to progress and grow as a writer. The first of which is to experiment in different points of view. I could go on a large rant about how second person is given a bit of a short stick on Fimfiction, but there's no point. I can see myself working in more Third-Person stories, however Anon will not be going anywhere.

I'm a Human in Equestria writer. One day I may write something with only horses, but if I do, it will likely be some sort of sappy Fluttershy or Cadance romance fic.

The next of which is a little more daring. I would like to do some extremely informal reviews of stories I read or have read on this website. The more and more I write, the more opinionated I get on stories. For example, I recently read "Summer on Fire" a story I was referred to due to it's similarities to Parent's Night Out. I'll just say I have some very strong opinions on the story that led me to stop reading it before I completed the story.

I feel that if I began to air my opinions on stories I've read, perhaps I can be a more helpful influence in not only pointing out parts of my own writing process I want to avoid, but become an informative resource for other writers. In my own way, not only can I give to readers, but I can also give to writers. My opinions are simply that, my opinions, but I would like if my 'reviews' would become intelligent discussions of storywriting and how to handle aspects of stories, and not a hate space for THIS STORY IS GOOD or THIS STORY IS BAD.

However, I also understand that not many people may enjoy hearing my opinions, so I'm still iffy on this idea.

So, here I am. One year later. Looking back on what I've done and I'm proud. I'm honored that I'm able to deliver stories that people enjoy so much. I'm not going anywhere and I only hope to become a more entertaining writer to read. As I sit in my room this March 5th, trying to write down more words for Something You'd Regret and wishing myself a happy birthday, I'm just happy to know that what I do makes a difference in someone's life. Anyone's life.

Thank you, everyone.

It's refreshing to see a FIMFic author so positive. Congrats on your progression Flutterpriest. I have really enjoyed reading your stories, and look forward to seeing where you will go from here. :moustache:

Happy one year anniversary:pinkiehappy:, I really love your work and I hope you never stop writing and I'm still patiently waiting for that sequel to Parent's Night Out.:scootangel:

Congratulation on your progression, anniversary/birthday (Birthaversary?) Flutterpreist, also good luck for your review idea, seems like an enjoyable project.

P.S. As a suggestion (which doesn't really mean anything coming from a Fimfic wanderer) could you let Fluttershy win once? Like, one successful rape? Just one... please? :fluttershysad:

Why the fuck must people prove stereotypes right!? Be a nerd in the living room or your bedroom that above ground. Also how the neck beard?

Second Person really is an unwieldly perspective. It feels like you have to hammer it into submission to get it to work right, and even then it still feels weird to use. I'd always switch to Third in order to write scenes where Anon wasn't present, but some people actually keep it as Second and attach to a different character entirely which is just downright bizarre, though that particular method seemed to be way more common in the early, early AiE days and has kinda died off.

Different perspectives really open up a whole new array of storytelling options for your to choose from. I'm really happy you're looking to expand your horizons and I can't wait to see what you produce.

Yo, happy anniversary on the site, and happy birthday dude!

You're doing slow, but great. My vote's for you finishing off Something You'd Regret before finishing the others off.
