One thing to note: Chrysalis was never making excuses, she truly did see herself as an wild animal not a part of 'civilization' or 'morality.'

This was due how to she interpreted what her father (a hunter) and mother (a actress) taught her, combined with her detached personality.

Chrysalis was anything but a spoiled child (this is what separates her from Discord). She saw 'good' and 'evil', as distractions and muddying the waters of "eat or be eaten" that she saw the world in.

Her sadistic streak was completely separate.

And she had a strong phobia of being imprisoned or enslaved (due to the time she spent as Queen Cocoon's slave). The more control she had over others, logically in her mind the less likely she'd be controlled herself.

Things like empathy, compassion, tenderness, sympathy, pity, were not part of her thinking process.

Ironically, seeing Sweetie Belle as a kindred spirit: both of them incarnations of Cadence who were 'not supposed to exist to begin with' and were 'accidents' was the first time in a long time that she felt true friendship towards somepony.

And when she became Cadenza, and in the brief time before her complete destruction from which Kifuko was born, she now genuinely desired to see the changelings have Equestria for themselves and cared for them. Locust and his fellow guards wanting to sacrifice themselves for her was completely their own idea.
