Story Momentum

I notice my stories seem to catch speed and 'weight' as they go. David in Equestria, for instance, feels less stiff with each chapter. Each character blossoms into their own pace while new characters easily slide into place and add their part. I'm hitting my stride with the story and we're ready to push forward into areas unknown.

Do any other writers experience this? What are folks thoughts on this phenomenon?
