New Patrion Account + two year aniversary of My Mortal Big Brother · 4:04pm Feb 3rd, 2015
I just started a Patreon account for those who want to support me. I'm still figuring it out so please hold off any donations until I say its ok. I believe there is a fee involved with fund transfers on my end, and there a system in place so that I don't get paid unless I release. I'm far from an expert when it comes to money, so I'm going to have my Dad who's a business major help me out and look over the fine print.
In the meantime, you guys can provide feed back for some goals or Patron rewards that you guys might be interested in. Also note that I'm still technically working for free, but with between transitioning into the working world in about a year and the poor job market, some sponsorship from would be most appropriated.
Here a video of me talking awkwardly in front of my webcam about it.
And here is a link to said Patreon. Please, only donate if you can afford. Too many creators take advantage of people and there fans. I don't want anyone to feel like if they don't donate I'm going to stop doing what I love.
On another note, two year anniversary of MMBB coming up on the 23rd. I wish I had a chapter to summit for the occasion since the series means a'lot to me even if it had a rocky start. I still have three weeks, and if I start now, I can possibly get a short chapter in by that time. Thank you all for your support. I hope I continue to please and entertain you all, whether it be an adventure, comedy, or if your just here for the clop (I know your out there ) Lol JK. Anyways, class in a few. Please leave a comment.
We're going to lose the site. Thanks for doing more illegal things. You can't make money off fanfiction, it's against the law.
2767013 I want to say your wrong... but the scary thing is you might be right? I've seen other authors with tip jars and what not. I'll talk to some of the mods about it, because Hasbro is not a force to be trifled with.
2767167 It's not that I want to be an asshole man, but ever since fanfiction.net it's been known to be against the law. I just wanna keep this site. If you have a patreon, try making different content. Like, if you have other talents, use those. As long as you keep to doing something original and are making money on that, you can't be faulted.
2767173 I would rather be poor than to see FIM shutdown. However, so long as its a donation and I don't stop what I'm doing, I think I'm in the clear. To be safe, I'll promote my other talents like 3D modeling or start working on some orginal short stories.
2767208 Then I wish you well on those pursuits. I need to get a new computer and get back into 3ds max myself.
2767013 Can I know your opinion about commissions?
You're not the only one to ask me that. The difference between Patreon and Commissions are the thing you need to look at to know my thoughts on it.
For Patreon, it's out right stated that you must follow their terms of service which also deal with US copyright laws.
Then there's a problem with commissions. They go more under the radar. Like, they're much harder to stop because it's not like you're making a deal while going through a company.
They could go after people that make money on commissions, but it's going to be tough to get evidence of it especially if it's hidden behind PMs. Though, I don't think it's okay just because it's hidden because that is just as illegal as having a Patreon for Fanfiction because none of the content belongs to you.
Now if it's a commission for an original character, that wouldn't be a problem. It's completely legal. But putting a character that doesn't belong to you with that character that's original would be illegal.

MLP franchise doesn't belong to artist who draw commisions. So basically, artist is violating the law, since he uses not his franchise for commercial profit.
And where it violates? I haven't heard that donating money in return for a promise "I will draw/write this" is illegal.
2767341 Look into their terms of service. That's all you have to do.
2767373 Yeah, and if Hasbro (or any other big boss that thought that his rights are being abused) wanted to shut down Patreon, he would have done it long time ago. Since, you know, letting to use owned franchise for commercial needs. Fighting is magic wasn't made for commercial profit, yet...
2767383 Well, this argument matters very little as when it comes to US copyright laws, making money on fanfiction is illegal. If more and more people do it, it will be all traced here. Just the same for patreon for dealing out in illegal practices. So, just keep that in mind.
2767415 There are cool money in this industry, keep that in mind. I don't know why Hasbro hasn't sued commission-doers to hell, since they banned Fighting is magic and many other mlp-based projects.

2767373 I know plenty of people who draw commissioned fan art for money, I've even seen people authors like Nostalgia commotion fics for money since he's apparently too lazy to come up with original scenarios for his clop fics and has admitted so himself.
I originally just wanted to put a PayPal tip jar, but I couldn't set it up for some reason. Wile searching for a way to create one, I found a FiM author who apparently has a patron link on his account. I thought that so long as I don't work excursively for money that it would be alright, now I'm second guessing myself. Having people like, fave, and comment has always been enough, but now that I'm getting out of collage.
That's why I'm going to broaden my Patreion to other things besides my fanfiction. I'm thinking about starting a non-pornographic science fiction series on furaffintey or perhaps deviant art. Back when American Dragon was on TV, I had this cheesie idea for a comic book about an anthropomorphic Dragon Knight in modern times. The original idea was a little too... 'edgy' in retrospect. I figure if I tone down the edge a bit, flesh out the idea, find a setting that's not New York city, I could make a story that American Dragon should have been like if it were a late night Toonamie or Adult Swim show.
