    A Question

This blog post has been a long time coming, I think, but it's something I've refused to even consider for... too long, really.

    Oops

Totally minor thing, but I just noticed that I put 2.1 above the first Interlude. The chapters should now be in the correct order. Sorry about that.

    I'm BACK!

I don't know for how long or by what absurd means, but I'm back! I'm going to be working mostly on OLH, though I've got a first draft (to be revised) of the last Letter to the Sun which I'll try to get out sometime after Finals Week ends. Not sure what I'm going to do with Postclassical, but hopefully I'll manage to finish that too.

    Reading Recommendations: Worm

i think I've referred to this story a few times before, and since it's been such a huge influence on me in terms of my writing I thought I'd do a proper recommendation for it.

(Note: This is not fanfiction. This is an original story in an original universe. No ponies involved. Sorry if that's not your thing, but you really should branch out a bit more.)

    Interlude 1: The First Jump

Well, that took an unforgivably long time.

But yes the first Interlude chapter is out, and I can say with as much certainty as I ever have (read: not much) that I'll have the first part of episode 2 out within... let's say the summer. :rainbowlaugh:

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up. It's Gearbox. We haven't seen much. We don't know what it's gonna look like finished...

BUT HOT DIGGIDY DAMMIT, I'm excited!

For those who weren't keen on paying the $100 price tag placed on the limited edition I mentioned before, it looks like the steam price is going to be $30~$35, and that's for both remastered games, plus the originals, plus what looks like some kind of standalone multiplayer (which is going to be released in beta).

I've also heard that the Gearbox guys have been talking to modders. I can't confirm that, but if so it gives me a lot of hope. I don't know how aware you guys are, but the Homeworld 2 modding community has done some amazing stuff with that decade-old engine, and I'm excited to see that the people at GB are recognizing that and not just snubbing the modders as so many game companies do these days.

Edit: I can now confirm that at least one or two modders from the Complex team (linked in the word "some" above) have been hired onto the Homeworld team. Plus, confirmed mod support. See the video link in the comments for more (awesome) information.

So... yeah, damn Steam and their awful, awful policy of putting things on sale. I may have bought this instantly when I saw it. Plus some spares.

I can stop buying old games on sale whenever I want! :pinkiecrazy:

dis gun be good

So much yes! We should make a group and have multilayer games!

2747769 I wholeheartedly second this idea.

Does anybody know what Gearbox plans to include with non-collector's edition physical copies of the game? I'm seriously tempted to just pre-order now but if they update the booklets that came with the original game I think it would be worth the wait to hold off. I spent hours back in the day reading through those things.

I found a good bit of gameplay footage from PAX here:

Words really can't describe how beautiful this looks, shivers went down my spine watching the intro to The Gardens of Kadesh

2750702 REMASTERED BACKGROUNDS CONFIRMED.

MOD SUPPORT CONFIRMED.

WORKING WITH MODDERS CONFIRMED.

I AM HAPPY WITH THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF THIS VIDEO.

Edit: HEIDI ERNEST CONFIRMED FOR KARAN S'JET'S VOICE.

SHIPBREAKERS CONFIRMED FOR OFFICIAL PREQUEL.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2751482 Heh, I thought you might like that video. I swear if Gearbox can deliver on everything they've promised I'm going to get their logo tattooed on my forehead as a show of loyalty:rainbowlaugh:

2747769 I'm down with the idea of getting a group together. You guys will have to be gentle with this newbie though, I was never able to play online with the original because of my terrible internet (back in the dark ages of 56k dial-up) and I was late to the party buying Homeworld 2 and never really got into the multiplayer.

2753330 I've only ever played one or two multiplayer games of the original long after it came out and I wasn't very good so there will be a lot of learning to be done by all.

2753330

Well, most of my experience involves Player VS CPU (though I have been lucky enough to play about a dozen matches of HW2 and maybe one match on HW1 before the servers went down.) I don't doubt there will be some veterans present, but I suspect this re-release is going to bring in a lot of new fans, so we'll probably all have plenty of room to learn.

Just one more mooooo~onth!

2753953 I'm going to brush up on how to put team icons into homeworld 2. Pride of Higara? Pride of Equestria!

2748720

Arg, I pass all of the recommended system requirements for Homeworld Remastered on Steam except:
Processor: 2.3 GHz Quad Core Processor

Because I only have a dual-core processor:
Intel i7-4500U 1.80 GHz

I bought the laptop recently, too (last spring). I mean it has 16 GB of RAM, which is really good (HWR only needs 4 GB), but I was hoping that the processor would hold up too.

I hope that I meet the minimum requirement for the processor, and I will if game-debate is to be believed:
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=17049&game=Homeworld%20Remastered%20Collection

Though I love this game so much that decreasing the graphics will hurt.

2763446 Well, considering the absurd level of detail they're promising, turning down the graphics probably won't make a hugely apparent difference.

I am not a computer person, though. I barely know how any of this works beyond vague, hand-wavey gestures and reverent whispers of "memory."

...though I know enough to ask one question: How the hell do you have a laptop with 16 gigs of MEMORY? I know tech moves fast, but my desktop only has 8!

2763453

That's what a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series has if you choose the largest memory.

2763477 That's quite impressive, though I have no idea what exactly you'd do with that much memory.

2763505

Well my previous laptop had only 2 GB of memory and by the end watching YouTube and having a modern browser really fill up that 2 GB. Maybe something will come along that will fill up 16 GB, but right now I am only using 5.5 GB.

2763512 The future is awesome.

Terrifying, but also awesome.

well, I finally did it... I broke down and purchased a collector's edition today. I hated having to spend that much money (I'm still kicking myself for not pre-ordering when it was being offered here in the US) but at least it'll hopefully go towards furthering the Homeworld franchise. Now I just wish my old copies would work so I could have something to try and keep me busy through this month.
