Shimmerverse: Why Celestia is not a Queen. · 3:14am Jan 9th, 2015
Hello and welcome my faithful viewers. I just wanted to pop in and say hi and explain a few things about this universe. Since a lot of these things are very important, I'm going to be posting several blogs explaining some details of the Shimmerverse. Some of these aspects are major, but are important to the universe I'm creating.
Now a lot of you may wonder: Why isn't Celestia a Queen? She has complete and utter power in her rule. She should be called one.
Wrong.
Equestria can't stand queens, or even the simple term. It is considered a foul word in the Equestrian language and it is one of the worst insults to say a pony is 'acting like a Queen'. Kings fare no better, though queens also inspire fear in the hearts of ponies.
Why? This all goes back to Equestria's last and worst ruler: Queen Majesty. 
A mare so vile, that her name is hesitantly spoken in scarcity to this day. Majesty was a puritan, believing in the pony master race. (So much so as to try and wipe out and actually convert other races....Said conversion potion has been lost to time.) As well, she made sure to keep pony races separate in their breeding. She controlled every facet of their lives and was the epitome tyrant. Not even king Sombra in the height of his reign could match her. For while he did everything for the sake of power, Majesty was twisted in the way that she thought she was doing right. She slaughtered million with a smile on her face. It wasn't until her personal 'all mare' guard finally realized her insanity and struck her down. {Said guard would become the Sisters of Vengeance.} Since then, Equestria has never had a queen or king.
So calling Celestia a queen would be epitome with calling her a bloodthirsty tyrant. Very heretical.
So instead, Celestia took the title of Princess, or in truth, Grand Princess. Though some just call her The Sun Goddess.
Making Sunset a Minor Princess and Spike a Minor Prince.

2710264 No, I just got the idea from how she acts in G1....She is always resorting to cruel and unusual violence while having her people adore her....It was very unsettling, so I thought to work on it.
Huh, that's a nice, creative way to explain why they used the term princesses. Although, I have to wonder how the ruler is even chosen. I mean, Queen Majesty is a unicorn, while Celestia and Luna are alicorns. I think it would be safe to say that ponies would choose the all-powerful immortal alicorns to rule them over some random unicorn, right? And why a queen, rather than a king?
Are you implying that this is before Celestia and Luna, and that they were born later? Or are you saying that the two alicorn sisters ascended into alicorn-ship soon after? So many possibilities!
2710300 Queen Majesty brought Equestria together after it shattered during its war with the Changelings. (Reducing a lot of the area to a 'Fallout' type setup do to the unicorns creating megaspells to combat the changeling hordes.) So she kind of appointed herself Queen and everyone fell under her mostly just for some semblance of order in the world.
Celestia and Luna were around during Majesty's time, but they wouldn't become who they are now (alicorns) until Discord's reign.
Now this is an interesting take on history. I wanna see more blogs about this universe.

3733750 I'll go over it in more detail in a blog in of itself, but to put it bluntly, after reforming Equestria, she let the power get to her and started a bloody crusade and iron rule, supporting a 'only pony' kind of world. It is considered one of Equestria's darkest moments in history.

3733893 Oh right, well she only appeared in some comics, I believe. She was rather....ruthless in her protection, pretty much killing her enemies in rather... strange ways, like when she confronted, I believe, a tribe of goblins that were harassing her ponies. They begged her not to, but she just did away with them, turning them into bubbles. Can't remember off the top of my head what else she did, but yeah, she wasn't entirely benevolent.

3733905 Yep and turned a human witch into a tree as punishment.... she came up with sick punishments.
She could perform any sort of magic and had a magic mirror from which she could see everything happening around her ponies.... yeah, taken out of context...and possibly in context, she was a bit tyrannical.
