    If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

    This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

    So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

    So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

Good Writing. Another story that feels like original fiction. Reads like a piece of a larger story. A Disjointed bit that suggests great tragedy, but leaves everything to the reader’s imagination. I often like confusing and disjointed stories such as this, but there simply isn’t enough here to piece anything together. The stories I like have enough information hidden away to at least come up with a theory about what is happening or what happened. Very well written, but didn’t feel very much like MLP and needed to be longer to put at least a bit more information in. Not getting one of the three vote slots.

This was a fun one. The good kind of slice of life. It could easily be a single scene of a larger story, but is self-contained enough to stand on its own. Really enjoyed both characters and would love to read more about them. This is an author I will be looking up to see if he has written anything else I can enjoy reading.

Stand Ready by JMac

Very good story. This is a nice slice of life involving the reaction to Princess Luna’s return. Do think this one might just get added to my headcanon, with some modifications from other awesome fanfics of course. I guess I’m just a sucker for stories about dedication and duty in the face of endless waiting. This story has a nice mix of tradition, dedication, and slice of life. All things I enjoy in the stories I read. Wouldn’t mind more of these characters, but this story is pretty much stand alone. This will be in the running for one of the three votes.

The Sun Shines Brightest at Night by PresentPerfect

This was a sweet romance story. Certainly in the running for one of the three vote spots, but probably not going to make the cut. The most interesting bit in here is about the batponies being sealed away when Nightmare Moon was banished. Like they were all turned into normal pegasi. Then they got brought back (well, their descendents) when Nightmare Moon returned and was defeated. The concept that they are a piece of her power, that something that affected Nightmare Moon affected them as well. Not sympathetic magic where they are affected through a connection, but that they are more a extension of her power. This was a cool concept for a romantic one-shot, though like most good stories I’d love to read more about these characters.

A very straightforward story. Luna finding the batponies, the reaction to Luna’s exile, then her return. Three moments in time bracketing the batponies history. This was more like I was expecting for the majority of the stories for this contest. Bits of this might get added to the headcanon. Two of the themes running through several of these fanfics are tradition and myth. Both of which I really enjoy in stories I like.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback. It might take a while, as more precision means I need to actually think about things instead of just doing stream of consciousness typing.
