Outsider's Game Update 7 · 10:22am Dec 24th, 2014
It's 4 am. I'm eleven pages in. And I'm still not done writing.
What's worse, it's officially Christmas Eve. Or better, as it were.
Like hell I'm giving up, though. Like hell I'm going to just upload what I have now and finish the rest later. Even if I'm at the most optimum spot to do so. I said I was going to finish this bastard by year's end, and I meant it. I've got an epilogue I have to write too, and I'll need the few days following Christmas Day and preceding New Years to write that. And the family will want me to spend time with them before then, so these twilight hours are the best time to finish some thousand or so additional words.
Deadlines suck.
Anyway, I know some people are...unhappy with the prospect of Turning Wheel ending. If you've stuck with it this long - through all the trials, tribulations, erratic scheduling, and straight up hiatus - then it means you're damn invested. This I understand. But Turning Wheel was never meant to be one of those stories that just keeps going forever. I'm not half the writer I need to be to carry any story for an indeterminate, theoretically unending period. I have only so much in me for one story. And writing this thing has taught me much about myself, my abilities, and the writing process.
Believe me, I'll have an entire blog post detailing the things I've learned just typing Turning Wheel. Post forthcoming.
Until I feel comfortable writing that ongoing story - something a little far off, I'm sure - I stick to limited tales with specific end points. Tighter focuses are needed (more on that some other time), and that means endings. Fear not, for I'm not abandoning this world or its characters. Not entirely, anyway.
But I'll get to that. I have work yet to do. But for a brief moment, let me share some Christmas cheer.
