Winter Solstice · 8:05pm Dec 21st, 2014
Well, today is the Winter Solstice; the longest night of the year. As a slightly insane zealot of Princess Luna, I had to make a blog post about this. Where I am it is sadly overcast tonight, (stupid lack of weather pegasi ) but I do tend to spend any clear night I can stargazing. As I'm out in the sticks, there's no light pollution to contend with and I am steadily learning the many constellations in the sky. One of these days I'll invest in a good quality telescope.
I know I've probably said this before, and to some I am probably preaching to the choir, but a clear night is just about one of the most beautiful natural sights, particularly if the moon is also somewhere around the first or last quarter. I honestly do not understand how the ponies of Equestria just ignored it all, all they had to do was look up.
You guys will probably call me out as being a bit odd for this, but sometimes, if it's a clear calm night and the moon is up, I'll sit outside with a cup of hot cocoa and talk to the moon as if it were Luna. I just talk, don't worry, the moon doesn't talk back, and get some stuff off my chest as I look up at the night sky.
So, if by chance you do have a clear sky tonight, take a moment to look up. Celestia gets her Summer Sun Celebration, so Luna should get some appreciation too.
Also, 'My Family and Other Equestrians' now has over 100,000 views. Thanks everypony.
I'm all for the Winter Moon Festival. A night of jubilation and merriment to celebrate the craftmanship and care of our Princess of the Night. Of course, either nature hates me, or the there is a global conspiracy among the weather ponies to hate me, because everytime there is something in the night sky to see, it's overcast. Every. Time. From Super Moons to falling stars. Doesn't matter where I am, but it's always the case... It's supposed to be overcast tonight here. Again...
2668682 It's a conspiracy; those damn Solar Empire ponies. They prevent anypony seeing Luna's work to keep Celestia popular.
Still, if I check every night when the moon rises, there will usually be one or two nights were you can see things clearly, often when the moon is near full.
2668694 I admit, I'm not the type to spend a whole lot of time admiring the beauty of something (it doesn't matter what. I can only reflect for a minute or so at most.) But that one time I say that Super Moon through the haze of clouds, just hovering in the sky quietly, yet seeming so powerful, the night so brilliantly lit without the glare that day brings... And I admit to like seeing the night's advance, the sky's blue darkening, the starts gently appearing (even if I can't pick out constellations to save my life.) The Night is the Best Time.
