Draft of the story, now called "Carrot Top Season" is done at 36k words.
I leave on a long trip on Wednesday, so my updates may be sporadic for a while. My hope is to get the first chapter up sometime tomorrow night and put it in the approval pipeline. Hopefully, it will get approved while I'm in transit, and by the time I touch down and then get set up in Europe the story can be added to. Anyway, I may not be able to respond to comments for a while, or even add the story to the Lunaverse group.
But at least it's done. :-)
Of course, now I want to write the non-canon story where M!verse AJ meets L!verse AJ, is horrified by what she sees, and runs home and gives Apple Bloom a big hug and a muffin, but I think I'll hold off on that until at least the 'canon' L-verse story is posted.

This makes me wonder how the rest of the Mane Six would react to their alternates. We know that Applejack will be horrified by the miserable paranoiac L!Applejack is within five milliseconds of seeing her and M!Twilight would look at the crazy, friendless pony who just wants to be told that she's right and pretty and smart rotting away in jail and wish that tiny pastel horses could vomit. What interests me is how the rest of them would react to the unhappy loners their counterparts are.

M!Rarity would probably be fine with L!Rarity. At least as what we've seen of her, they're almost identical except for subtle, manipulative bits. Those two, at least, would probably get along fine.

As would L! and M!Rainbow Dash; sure, M!Rainbow Dash would be mildly confused that L!Rainbow Dash was kind of a jerk but she'd remember that she was that way before Twilight came. M!Fluttershy would be sort of, um, disappointed at how asocial her counterpart was but can easily understand why.
The problem, as I see it, is that M!Pinkie Pie would be turned off by the self-absorption of her Lunaverse counterpart. SHE makes ponies smile to make them feel good; L!Pinkie Pie does so to make HERSELF feel good.
