Brand new year! · 12:55am Jan 3rd, 2022
I hope everyone had a really good 2021, and that 2022 will also go great.
My 2021 went really well. As a few of you know, I've moved away from fan fiction and am doing work-for-hire fiction commissions as a side hustle right now, and business went really well. I hit all of my goals in terms of both word count output, sales, and income. I also made substantial progress on a new novel which I'm hoping to finish within the next two months or so. This year I really want to further expand both my work-for-hire business even more as well as ramp up on creating my own intellectual property. (The advantage of doing my own IP is that I then retain all the rights to the work, so I can put it on Amazon or whatever and then keep making sales for the next thirty years if I'm popular enough. The downside, of course, if that you have to work to find the audience to actually make those sales. Work-for-hire has the advantage that it's easier to get paid up-front, since you have a client who has already said he wants to buy the work and you don't need to go find an audience, but then the client retains the rights to the work and so the writer doesn't make any additional royalties.)
I also started a new day job which is going really well, so that'll cut into my writing time, but I'm optimistic I can get everything done and keep writing.
Best wishes for 2022!
Ooh congrats on hitting all your goals! And hope the new job goes well too. :)
I admit I miss your writing here, but I'm so glad to hear you're doing well that more than makes up for it. Plus I can always peruse your archives if I really need a fix.
Congratulations on how things are going for you.
