    The Most Dangerous Game

So I guess I missed out on EqD's latest big writing contest, The Most Dangerous Game. I mean, technically there's two days left to submit, but I only just found out about it. Shame, too, because I have kind of a cool idea--just not one I think I can get done within the time left to me. Ah well. Maybe

"An Outsider's Perspective" Featured at the Royal Canterlot Library!

Hey, you know that announcement I've been talking about? This would be it. I'm thrilled and honored to say that the guys over at the Royal Canterlot Library enjoyed "An Outsider's Perspective" so much that they decided to feature it, along with an interview of me. And man, I'm not going to lie, I'm kind

    Hey, so, Flutterspy!

Guess what story I just finished after more than two years of writer's block?

No, not Prince of Ponyville. Probably never Prince of Ponyville.

Nope, it's a story that I feel holds up a lot better, and really deserved an ending: "Flutterspy!"

I'm late to the party, here, but Rainbow Rocks...

I just finished watching Rainbow Rocks, and I have to write down my immediate reaction.

That reaction is: I just watched Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny's kid sister movie. It was freaking amazing.

Hey, hey, hey, what's going on? · 4:31am Jun 26th, 2012

Hey there, folks. Just a few updates on what's going on over here.

First and foremost, I spent the last couple of days editing and doing some extensive rewrites to "A Teacher With No Class" in preparation for submitting it to the Equestria Daily. I know a lot of folks liked the fic as it was, but it definitely had some structural issues; Blueblood's breakdown didn't have nearly enough buildup, the whole "falling for Cheerilee" thing came a little out of left field... Well, those issues have been addressed to my general satisfaction. My neuroses disagree, but I sent it to EqD anyway. We'll see what happens.

Assuming "A Teacher With No Class" gets accepted, I'll be taking another look at "Looking Glass, P.I: Coins and Crowns", which has been sitting on the shelf for about a month now and could use a little love. (Any feedback on it would be great, by the by; it's been stuck in prereader limbo at /fic/ for over a month!)

Once I'm done with that, it'll be time to either start giving "The Strange Destiny of Prince Blueblood" a critical once-over, or start on another project that was inspired by a reader's suggestion. Hell, I might do it either way, just to break up the monotony of proofreading. I'd also like to do something explaining the history of Azure Throne and his kingdom, and how much of his story about Celestia was actually true, but I'll ideally figure out a way to wedge it into "Strange Destiny" without it being too cumbersome.

Meanwhile, I've also got some recommendations for ya!

First off, if you haven't already read The Best Night Ever by Capn_Chryssalid, go do that immediately. Based off one of my favorite films, Groundhog Day, it's about everyone's favorite member of the royal family being forced to relive the Grand Galloping Gala again every night. And it is, seriously, fantastic. I unreservedly place it among the best novels I've ever read. Set a few days aside and read this damned thing. There's a sequel, too, but I haven't really cracked the virtual spine on it yet. 147k words is a bit intimidating. I mean, that's basically Robert Jordan length right there. But I'm sure it'll be amazing, too.

Second, you really ought to check out DGDavidson's ongoing stories, "Assassinate Princess Celestia!" and "Princess Trinity." Dude's got serious talent and a knack for finding awesome situations and characters to write about. I keep comparing him to Jim Butcher, one of my absolute favorite writers, and for good reason. Give him your thumbs and favorites!

Third, pretty much everything Paleo Prints has written, though I'm especially in love with "Choices" and "School Daze." Paleo's an educator by trade, and his characterization of Cheerilee in those stories gives you an excellent look into what it actually means to be a teacher. And his take on Ditzy Doo is seriously putting her in the running for Best Pony. Seriously brilliant work.

Okay, hopefully, at least some of you haven't already devoured and enjoyed these guys' work. I'm a bit of a fanfic recluse (I didn't even know what "My Little Dashie" was about until I saw the interview), so I'm not entirely sure of the relative fame of certain authors. But, hopefully at least one of you seeing this post will find somethin' fun to read.

Me, I'm going to stare at Blue's conversation with Big Mac and wonder if I shouldn't change the "eeyups" to "eeyeps." Is that considered a typo? I just don't know...

Hey, I'm helping a fellow brony find reading material and stimulating the economy of the local welding supply store. Win!

Hey, man, you've earned all the plugs I can throw atcha.

You know, I interpreted his attraction to Cheerilee as a reaction to being shown genuine kindness. She wasn't displaying any interest in his title or position, but in him as a pony, and when's the last time that happened to the guy?

196831
Yeah, you're right. That was my original intention, too. I think I got carried away with tying things together with the sequel.

Time to overanalyze that section and make a dozen or so minor edits to it until it feels right in my head!
