    Chapter 18 news.

It's actually very complete! Just needs art for it. Now, I had received word from paper pony around March that he was eager to participate again. I showed him the chapter, and he read it. He was pleased and enthusiastic!

    Happy New Year!

My hands are freezing, as I just came in from the chilly outside, having watched some fireworks. :pinkiehappy:

Anyhow,, here's a sketch of a grimy and weary Rosy from our guest artist.

And here's something to celebrate the new year with!

My concerns have been alleviated greatly. · 12:07pm Jun 25th, 2012

Some of you may've noted I was worried that something unfortunate had happened to paper pony, the incredibly nice fellow who produces art for First Pony View. His absence of three weeks had burdened me with much fear for his safety, and I was staring to fear the worst. Yesterday, I finally received a message that replaced the troublesome uncertainty in my heart with immense joy. The worst kind of tragedy had not befallen paper pony. Instead, his home had been broken into and his computer stolen, which is honestly terrible. I can't fully imagine his feelings, but I am sure he must've been extremely shocked. Only very recently did he get his computer back, much appreciably by the efforts of friendly and responsible law enforcement. Without doubt he is very happy to have his things back, and I was so happy to hear from him that I almost cried. Yes, I admit that I can be a softy, and he really is more than an artist to me. I even began to seriosuly consider hiring an investigator to look into why paper pony had gone missing. No idea what it would've cost me, but money is just currency that can be regained with some work.

So, to sum up, paper pony is safe and sound, and I think his beautiful illustrations will adorn the future chapters. Not saying he must provide art. It's entirely up to him if he wants to. I'm more glad that he's okay.

Anyway, there was one thing I began to wonder while on the subject of art, and that was if there are others who have or want to produce FPV-inspired art. Naturally, I do not demand for more art, and it is entirely up to the artist discretion if they wish to show what they have or will create.
I myself made one drawing (if it can be called that) just a few days ago. It's my vision of the protagonist looking into a mirror, with the manestyle resembling the one she has in TimeImpact's animation (featured in the second chapter, Control Yourself).

Yay! All is well!

Hmm.. FPV inspired art.. That gives me an idea.. TO PHOTOSHOP!

195123
I'm not sure if I should be scared or delighted by that enthusistic announcement.

195126

Truthfully, me neither!

195129
I guess we will soon know...

Paper pony? Please enlighten me.

195202
paper pony is the talented friend who has created the illustrations for First Pony View.

Yay! Paper's back!

D'aaaaw. That picture is adorable.

195244
It's more than great to have him back, and yes, that image is so cute . I think she looks sad, though. Don't you think so, too?

Good to hear the art in the chapters will probably continue. They are a very nice edition and treat within a solid story.

195265 She looks like she is lost in thought to me... And they don't seem like happy thoughts...

195357
Poor Rosy... She's so adorably pensive.

Yay! Paper's all right and got his computer back!

Good to hear.

YAY! I'm glad your friend is okay! :pinkiehappy: You had me worrying too!

195550
Now, we don't have to worry anymore . Except for Rosy. We should always worry for her, so that she knows she's not alone.

195570
YUP!

Rosy needs MORE HUGS! Well, ok, that's my answer to most problems. Hehehe~ :yay:

195265
The expression seems sort of sad and confused. Maybe concerned. Some combination of those emotions.

195671
A hug can fix a lot. Marcus knew that .

195674
That's... beautifully said :pinkiehappy:. I think you just described the moment when Rosy was looking into the mirror and realized she was apparently powerless to change her physique (except by reverting to her human male form by ending her "lucid dream").

195719

Hehe, yup! Hugs are better than drugs! So get hooked on hugs today! :yay:

oooooohhhhhh so that happened to paper pony. Not exactly but almost "THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING."
I'm just getting my new drawing tablet (maybe tomorrow) and my brains are overflowing with ideas, (:yay: yay for that) and I have had troubles sleeping while keeping those ideas alive. so, whee! art.

195796
Not too long ago, I colored a picture a friend made on by my request. It features a certain unicorn hugging an earth pony.

195901
Poor paper pony. It's great he's okay now. Maybe he needs a hug, too?
Now, you got me quite excited about what magnificent artwork you have to show. I mean, if it's okay for you to show it.

196788

Awwwww~ So Cuuuute~

196788
You mean... this picture?

i.imgur.com/L19uy.jpg

It was really nice of you and your friend. Thanks! :pinkiehappy:

196788
Well sure I can show you what I'll do. Let me just practice for few hours and I'm ready to go!

197031

D'AWWWWWWWWWWW~! That's Soooo Cuuuuuuuuuute! :yay:

197098
I have a strong smile on my face just from imagining what you might create.
197590
Don't we all wish we could do that to Rosy? The picture is so adorable, I think my blood is turning into sugar.

197660
----> Into my midnight projects it goes --->

197660

I know! It's soooo cuuute! And Rosy just needs so much help and hugs! My friend Wendy would say I'm getting all squishy again. :rainbowlaugh:

As much as I like that picture of yours, I'd like to point out that it lacks expression, mostly due to eyes. They can and do convey a wide range of emotion, after all, which is not present here.
Here, Rosy looks disappointed, and a little sad.
On paperpony's, Rosy looks greatly surprised and terrified by her reflection.

200182
I admit I'm not a very good artist, so perhaps I have not conveyed emotion into Rosy's expression as sufficiently as I believed. I do have to note that you said eyes can express a wealth of emotions, emotions which are not present here. The way you worded it makes me think Rosy's emotionless in this image. Then, you say she looks disappointed and a little sad. Either I'm misunderstanding you, or then you contradicted yourself. Don't take that as an offense, though. If you did, I'm sorry. It was not my intention to slight you.
I assume the paper pony's drawing you're referring is the one on his DA page, where she does look as you describe. The version of Rosy in chapter 1 has a somber expression. I'm not saying my drawing here is my intepretation of the scene paper pony has visualized, but it can be. At the end of chapter 1 she may've very well been sad and disappointed, perhaps even displeased at being a mare.

I'm glad to hear that all is well with Paper Pony. It's never a nice feeling when you lose contact with a friend for weeks on end.

First Pony View fan-art you say?

Hmm, well... I've been on somewhat of a vector binge these last few days, so perhaps I might try my hand-or hoof as the vernacular would permit-at giving Rosy an appearance.

200232
Okay, my head just slightly exploded upon reading this due to me not being accustomed to comprehending something this fancy.

In my mind, it's both. Her face expresses disappointment and sadness, while her eyes are emotionless, and as a result, overall feeling of said emotions is false and out-of-place. As such, I would like to advise you that if you would wish to take artistic path, you would need to invest more time in practicing expressing emotions by using not only face, but eyes as well.
(Okay, head exploded again. As it seems, I am not fit for enhanced vocabulary in non-native tongue.)
P.S. Please, do not take preceeding sentence as a wish for you to speak plainly. I can fix my head - and with that, I become more versed in language.

200300
Okay, now I get what you mean. This failure in emotions again goes back to how I'm not a proficient artist. I may learn things over time as I do more of poorly drawn doodles into a sketch book, which eventually evolve into something I may want to develop into a colored drawing. Perhaps the next time I have art to show, it'll look better and not feature an emotional disparity. Perhaps you may want to offer some advice. Should the eyes be rolled down? Angle the upper eyelids more steeply? Downturn the ears? Throw me a bone here (but not in the manner that it inflicts blunt force tauma on me).

200295
Well, I was ready to hire a PI, and I teared up a bit when I finally heard from him :fluttercry::, so yeah, paper pony has a place in my heart .
Thanks for the consolation, and of the offer of art. Don't work yourself much with it, though. I mean, it's a bit selfish to ask others to expend energy on something that they aren't really involved in. I'm sucha Fluttershy. "Oh, you can draw art for me. I mean, if that's okay with you." Say, do you draw art for your own story? I suppose you do. I shuld probably read it some day.
I think I may try replicate that expression in your avatar image, too. If I get on an artistic mood again and no other or better ideas have come to mind, that is :twilightsheepish:.

200339
Learn from existing examples, such as ones from within the show itself. I'm not a very good teacher on this subject, since I have troubles with translating the feel of emotions drawn into spoken words (and thus I confused you firstly), but NapalmNacey's 25 Essential Expressions is pretty helpful for practice.

Also, you shouldn't be ashamed by asking others about drawing Rosy and art for FPV in general. She is gorgeous.
P.S. I think I can relate to Rosy on a level that corresponds strongly to my definition of "romance". Not sure how I should react to this.
P.P.S. Apparently I also suffer from bad memory on names. Oh well.
P.P.P.S. Very minor oversight: with Rosy being a brony before her awakening, she would know or at least vaguely remember that unicorn horns are made not from keratin, but from alicorn - referring to ponies that have features of all three races as Alicorns came later.

200384
I may want to try that what you showed me when time permits.

The reason why I'm ashamaed of asking others is because I'm such a Fluttershy. It is difficult to demand for something. I've done that in my past, and I don't think of those times with pride.
Anyway, it's kind of funny that you say Rosy is gorgeous. Oh, if only she'd realize it, then maybe she'd find her smile again.

200339 For my own stories, no, I don't actually do illustrations. For my oneshot Love is Blind, I did do the cover image, but I actually ran a contest on deviantART for the cover image for Displaced. I've thought of doing illustrations for the latter, but at this point it is far too late to start. If I make any fan art, it won't be overworking myself, since I enjoy playing with the software I have been vectoring in: Inkscape.

If you're interested in replicating my avatar for your own pony persona, here is the vector base that I started out with.:pinkiehappy:

200680
I have Inkscape, but I have no idea how to use it :twilightsheepish:. What I know better is GIMP. I may try what you offered, assuming I am confident I'll get the mane right and place the second trio of eyelashes correctly.

Oh, but don't you ever say "too late". My story didn't have cover art until about six months ago. Has this story been here for that long? Wow. Anyway, where was I going with this? Oh, right, art can really enchance a story in ways you may've not even considered. Speaking of that, I probably should consider reading your stories. I simply busy myself with other matters so much that I may read only one or two chapters of the stories I've favorited, but the effort is at least something, and once I'm done with my backlog, I may take upon your story next. Reading the stories of thers will also give me pointers on how to write a good narrative.
Anyway, maybe some day you'll get a fan who is willing to illustrate your tale(s) for you?

200706 That's quite possible, having a fan who illustrates for me; I'm certainly no Michelangelo. :pinkiehappy:

In regards to inkscape, the only pointer I have is rectangles solve almost everything if you can think abstractly regarding how to make use of them. :raritywink: Four rectangles are all it took to make the top part of rainbow dash's mane when I did this. When I did Goldenrod up using that base, I realized that I hated doing his mane and ended up imitating Future Twi, but now that I have a bit more experience, it wasn't so bad.

200717
Well, your story is more than just a touch more popular than mine is, so the odds of a fan finding your work art-worthy may not be at all impossible.

As for your art, I can't say I'm much on an artist myself. I can draw, sure, but it's like saying I'm experienced sustained flight whenever I jump. I take a screenshot from the cartoon and use it as the base, plaing layer on layer until the original image is entirely concealed. That's self-explanatory, though. I've drawn entirely free-hand images, but I prefer to replicate the cartoon's style as accuractely as I can, and that I wish to improve on with every image I draw. You stated that you were not a great artist, but what you presented is very fine indeed. I have no idea how rectangles can create curved shapes, but then again, you know Inkscape and I don't :derpytongue2:. Maybe you're a more ingenious artist than I am.
IAnyway, I hope you enjoy and keep enjoying creating your own art, both written and drawn .

200631
Here's not very correct example how it's possible to change expression drastically by using eyes.

204187
Poor AJ... :fluttercry: I hope she does have living parents.

In other certifiably positive news, I got saw some FPV art recently . I'd prefer if the author himself were to post it with some words of his own (hint hint) :ajsmug:

I'm eager to see said art. But I do believe that author doesn't check comments here often.

207563
Well, I'm sure he wont mind if provide a link to his DA profile. :ajsmug:
