Applejacks Parents, Dead. Yay or nay?

I personally don't like just lumping in scootaloos parents and Applejacks parents as 'Canon, they're dead'. But for this story, maybe that'd be the best? What do you guys think? And who would be dead that Twilight would care about?

A grandma? I know that when my grandma died I cried for a week then buried myself in books for like 1/2 a year. Even now more then 5 years later I still read like 15 more books a week than I did before she died. I think twilight would probably do the same

Kinda late to the party here, but official canon is that AJ's parents are dead, and the scene in Apple Family Reunion where Aj looks at the shooting stars is a reference to this.

As for Scootaloo . . . she lives in a house, in canon, so at least she's not a homeless orphan. While we've never seen her parents, we've never seen Fluttershy's either (or RD's in present time).

Some merchandise suggests Cheerilee is Scootaloo's older sister (can't remember what; I think it was a trading card or a toy). But here's another possibility that I've never seen explored: what if pegasus parents kick their foals out at a young age and then never see them again?

It sounds dark, sure, but there's at least some parallel in the avian world, as well as in modern sayings, like leaving the nest. Obviously, the idea needs some work; the fact is, I came up with it just now. But it could be an interesting bit of world-building.
