“So wait. Does Equestria not have the gender change operation or something? That is the obvious solution in this case. Especially if she gets it done covertly which should be easy for someone with friends of her influence. All she would have to do is go to the Crystal Empire and ask Princess Cadence to get her Royal Surgeon to perform the operation and then help her to get a new life started as a colt by helping her get a covert name change and enough of a covert makeover so that when she went back to Ponyville her friends wouldn’t be able to recognize her. As Princess Cadence spreads love everywhere she goes and all of Rainbow Dash’s favors are related to helping Rainbow Dash find true love, Princess Cadence should have no problems with helping Rainbow Dash, regardless of whether or not all of Equestria is homophobic. Then when the name change and makeover were over, she could just go back to Ponyville and act like a complete stranger. That solution is also a lot better than becoming addicted to drugs or becoming a masochist. Then he could work on becoming their friend as a colt and then he could eventually ask one of them to be his very special somepony. The only possible complications to this would be Pinkie Pie because of her Pinkie Sense; coming up for a reason as to why the Element of Loyalty works for him (this could be easily gotten around if she went to Princess Celestia and asked her for one last favor before heading off to the Crystal Empire and getting Princess Cadence to help her with the rest of her plan, that favor being helping her lie to her friends and telling them that if the pony that first represented a specific Element of Harmony, say Loyalty, was to die, than there were more ponies out there that represented the Elements of Harmony because the Elements of Harmony were able to seek out worthy hosts, which really is the ); making sure to go along with their insulting Rainbow Dash or their crying about how Rainbow Dash is no longer there. Or he could just tell them that he ran into her in Fillydelphia and that she was very depressed and he was actually the one to find her dead body along with the suicide note that she left; and of course there is always the most important complication and that is coming up with and always sticking to a completely new personality but still being able to represent the Element of Harmony in his own special way along with what to do about Tank the Tortoise. While she might want him back, he would have to remember that might blow her cover and ruin his life. Did you follow that entire comment? If not, then it basically boils down to does Equestria have the gender change operation? If it does, then why didn’t she just go to the Crystal Empire, ask Princess Cadence if she could talk to her privately about a matter of the heart, then, when they are alone, tell her that she would like her help in covertly becoming a member of the opposite gender in order to be accepted by the pony that she has had her eye on for her special somepony. As Princess Cadence is the ruler of an empire that is responsible for spreading love and harmony throughout all of Equestria and as Princess Cadence’s destiny is to help get two ponies together in relationships, then she should be a lot more understanding towards Rainbow Dash than any other pony in Equestria would be. Not to mention the fact that she would be much better equipped to help Rainbow Dash covertly die and a colt to rise from her ashes. Then why didn’t he go to Princess Celestia and tell her that something terrible had happened: Rainbow Dash is dead! If Princess Celestia starts to argue and say that HE IS RAINBOW DASH then he should say “Um… your highness? You should probably get your eyesight checked. I am a colt. Rainbow Dash was a filly.” Then she should immediately realize what she did and should ask why he did that. He should say “That doesn’t matter Princess. What does matter is if you will help me or not. If you won’t then Equestria will be down an Element of Harmony. If you will, then I will promise to serve you as loyally and as faithfully as I always have. Don’t worry, I am not going to ask for anything overly difficult or ridiculous. I just want you to lie to my friends and tell them that if the first host of an Element of Harmony should die than that Element of Harmony can seek out another worthy host and that pony would then be able to use that Element of Harmony just as well as the first host was. I have good reasons for being a colt and they are mine and mine alone.” Princess Celestia should then agree as it isn’t that much to ask for seeing as how s…he, Princess Celestia mentally corrects herself, was able to help reunite Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Then after that happened why didn’t he go back to Ponyville and introduce himself to Pinkie Pie? That would be the first real test of all of the changes that she had made to herself in the intervening time. The next real test would be when the first disaster that required the use of the Elements of Harmony arose. However, as he had already talked to Princess Celestia about this, then that should also not give him away.
Anyways, that is what I feel would have made for a better story, because even though there would have been sacrifices made, (Scootalo would have forever lost her big sister and would be forever convinced that her big sister had just abandoned her by committing suicide and Rainbow Dash’s parents would have forever lost their daughter and would have been convinced that she had committed suicide for some strange reason and Rainbow Dash would have forever lost her parents and would have to live with the fact that they thought that she had committed suicide and Rainbow Dash would have forever lost her little sister and would have to live with the fact that she felt betrayed and abandoned by Rainbow Dash because Rainbow Dash had committed suicide), but Rainbow Dash would still have gained things as well, hopefully such as a marefriend in the end and in the more immediate sense a new lease on life, instead of just losing things.
What inspired this? And yes, I did manage to get the whole way through it without the words melting together. I feel accomplished!

The sequel is a trollfic, don't bother. This was written by a guy who thinks that sex change is a desired option for gay people. He was also tricked into literally doxxing himself, though he deleted all of his comments on the original story after I asked him to.

No, the sequel was something about Methdancer fucking Dash. Completely unrelated, though he took it seriously, of course. This is his actual belief. Even after he confirmed that he supposedly knew that gay people were separate from trans people.
