Alas, The Chance is drawing to a close.
I hope people enjoyed it. I'd like to continue to dwell in Vanhoover. There are stories to be told there. This has been one of the first Post-Collapse stories in the Chase-Verse, but I really hope that it will not be the last. Time will tell and hopefully people will express some interest. I wanted to offer a glimpse into the harsh realities of the world, but also the promise of hope.
Anyhow, tell me what you think. How you feel. Not just for this story, but for future works in the Chase-Verse. The survivors of the collapse all have a story to tell, some happy, some sad, but not everypony makes it.
Writing this story made Vanhoover real for me. I gained a feel for what it is like in 'verse' and the overall feel of the city. It is a coastal city with a lot of griffons. It isn't as integrated as Ponyville. Everypony and everybirdy has their own part of the city. And of course, the wealthy continued to enjoy relative comfort and well to do-ness while the poor deal with shortages and doing without.
I'd love to hear what you drew from the story.
And maybe, if you have a short story idea about life post collapse, I'd like to hear it. Pitch it. I am pondering commissions.
It's a good story. I'm assuming this takes place the first winter since Bucky returned from the Isles?

Yes, this the Winter of Discount Tents.
The first winter after the collapse and everything is still trying to come back together in some meaningful way.
