Hey guys, I'm back again. I swear all I use my blogs for is to celebrate things.
But yes, today is the day, 17 years ago, that I came out of my mother's uterus and entered the world.
It's my first birthday on fimfiction, so I thought I would give something to everyone who has decided to follow me (seriously 79 people thought I was important enough to stalk, that's crazy).
Anyways I'm going to talk a little about the main characters in MLP
Characters make a show, that's obvious, that's why MLP is so popular in the first place, the characters seem real, like they could be your own friends, heck they could even be you.
I don't have a good segway into this part, so let's go!
Twilight Sparkle
Twilight is the character I'm most like, she is worried about the little details, but sometimes loses the big picture in the process. I like Twilight, not because I find her adorkable, or cute, but simply because she's a refreshing character to have in the lead role.
Often times in stories we find our main character as a strong all around average person who has the same amount of flaws and weaknesses. This allows for the secondary characters to get recognition, and gain usefulness.
With Twilight, she is rational, which often sacrifices action and intensity, for puzzles and planning. (of course I'm simply generalizing, I know that finale was cray cray.)
Some might say this bores them to tears, which is understandable, but MLP as a show doesn't need to be action based to be fun to watch, sometimes it's good to take a break from it all.
Twilight is simply an extremely solid character, they may focus on her a little to much, but in the end, her episodes are enjoyable.
Rainbow Dash
Now if you want your action, Rainbow Dash definitely has it.
Dash is like a small package of feelings and emotion, all contradictory. On one hand, she is extremely confident, yet on the other end, she constantly belittles herself to the point where she needs her friends to reassure her of her own skill. She wants to be a Wonderbolt, yet she doesn't want to put in the actual effort to achieve that goal.
Dash is like a firework, she goes at challenges head on and is ready to overcome anything, but when her flame burns out she is left with the reality of what she has actually done.
She is an interesting character, she arguably has the most flaws in the show, yet she is also one of the most solid as well.
Rarity
Rarity is my favourite character, simply because she is downright hilarious.
She is so sarcastic so un-empathetic to others that it's funny. Her character constantly makes witty remarks, mocking fashion sense and mannerisms.
The thing that intrigues me about her, is her relationship with Applejack. No other character has the type of love/hate relationship that they do, I look foreword to seeing them together on screen. They never act like everything is just preachy keen in the world, and disagree on almost everything, yet they have a sort of chemistry that no one else has out of the main 6.
The writers are very wishy-washy when writing Rarity, this is especially evident when they try to force her element of generosity onto her. Some of her episodes are completely ruined due to the fact that I never feel like I'm watching Rarity, I feel like I'm watching someone pretend to be her. Some times she's extremely generous, and others she has almost no empathy or remorse.
Rarity needs to be thought out a little more, she is my favourite character, not for what the writers want her to be, but for what she is.
Applejack
I really don't want to like Applejack, she doesn't have much screen time, her episodes are lackluster (Josh Haber writes her very well though.) and she doesn't have much of a personality other than "I'm southern ya'll"
I honestly don't know why I like her, maybe it's because she is so genuine and nice to everyone, maybe it's because the writers portray her often as someone who is always right, and simply talks sense into anyone.
A lot of people make fun of her, calling her a background pony and saying she has little personality, but in reality Applejack is one of the most mysterious characters of the show, little has been done with her in 4 seasons, I'm just hoping someone can really dissect her personality and exploit her to the fullest.
Pinkie Pie
Pinkie Pie was my favourite for so long.
It seems like the writers have forgotten how to write her, yes I'm aware we have had good episodes with her like Pinkie Pride, but what used to be a character that was funny but didn't always use random gags to get cheap laughs, is now mostly reduced to all gags.
The absolute worse was how she was portrayed in Filly Vanilli. She is basically a b*tch to Fluttershy the entire episode. She mocks her gets in her face and makes her cry at one point. The absolute Opposite reaction she is supposed to stimulate from ponies.
Other than that, she isn't a prominent character anymore, she often hangs in the background and pops up at a moment to make a random comment about cheesecake or something, it's not funny and only really creates mild annoyance among the viewership.
Fluttershy
And then there is Fluttershy, who I don't like. She is not a bad character, she's just extremely... limited, in everything.
The writers have kinda dug themselves a hole with Fluttershy, They can't do much with her simply because of her character, this limits almost all ideas other than the "trying to overcome my shyness" trope. Which they have ground so deep into the earth, it's now molten lava.
The best Fluttershy episode in my opinion was Green Isn't Your Color. It was at a time when there wasn't many Fluttershy episodes and they used her shyness to create a conflict with Rarity, instead of just limiting her ability to do something, this episode limited her ability to end something, she was stuck in a odd situation of not wanting to carry out the activity, and not wanting to disappoint her friend.
That's all I really have to say, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, and what better time than to do it on my birthday.
Not how I would normally describe a birthday... but technically accurate.
