“An artist's job is to captivate you for as long as we've asked for your attention. If we stumble into truth, we got lucky, and I don't get to decide what truth is.” -Tabitha Fortis, The West Wing

    Good news: I'm Not Dead!

    And neither is Student 32!

    Yet.

Shut it! Anyway, I apologize for taking so long, but the last chapter of this mini-arc is on its way to my editor. I'm afraid this latest batch of 3 chapters is rather short. But I have learned an extremely valuable lesson from these months of struggle.

    I. CANNOT. WRITE. SLICE OF LIFE. DOWNTIME. FLUFF!!!

Random Thoughts: Thanks for All the Fish

First things first, progress is good on the next arc of Student 32. It'll be a casual, slice-of-life style arc as we get ready for the source manga's big Genre Shift.

    New Chapter: Don't Panic

Yes, I published a new chapter of The Undying Angel.

No, this does not mean that I have taken significant time away from Student 32: Sunset Shimmer or shifted focus. That is still my primary project. This chapter just came together recently, so I decided to publish.

It's official. I bucking HATE parasprites!

First, let me say that our shows in Manehattan were a HIT! Sold out theatres every night after the first. Word spreads quickly in this city. The audiences were great, and we were even able to meet a few of the big names in the business. Heck, we got to meet Princess Luna! She's a lot more shy than I was expecting, but oh does she love the arts. She was going to get our troupe a copy of the ORIGINAL, UNALTERED works of Shakespur!

Then the parasprites attacked. Twenty seconds was all it took them to devour our wagons, props, outfits, everything! We were left with the clothes on our backs (those of us who had been wearing any), and, thankfully, our bits. We split our money as evenly as we could and were forced to part ways. Most of them went back to Manehattan or on to Canterlot, but I decided to try my hoof at a small town gig.

And so, here I am in Ponyville. It's a quaint little town near the base of Canterlot Mountain. I've met a few ponies here, and talked with the mayor about setting up a small theatre, but it looks like it will be street performances until I can raise the bits. Thankfully, I've been taken in by a very kindhearted family: the Ponyville branch of the Apple family! I stayed with their relatives in New Yoke for a month a few years back, and the whole family is the very down-to-earth sort.

The matriarch of this branch is Granny Smith, quite elderly and a little senile. Nevertheless, she has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom ready to share, as long as she's lucid. Then there's Granny's grandchildren. (Not sure where their parents are, but that's not my place to pry.) The oldest is a large stallion aptly named Big Macintosh. Falls right into the strong, silent stereotype. He seems a bit simple, but I've been wrong about that sort of thing before, so I'm not about to make assumptions. Next in line is the real backbone of the family, Applejack. I've been here for less than a day, and already I can tell that she's the one who's really in charge here. Very nice, if a little blunt. Values honesty and hard work, so guess what she thinks of an acting career. Oh well, she'll come around eventually. Then there's Apple Bloom. Cute little tyke. Still hasn't gotten her cutie mark, but seems determined to do everything in her power to make it happen. She and a couple of her friends have formed a small club that they call "The Cutie Mark Crusaders". All I can say is, good luck to them. I'd tell them that running around doing random stuff isn't how you get your cutie mark, but I'm sure that their families have said it time and time again.

That's about it for today, except for one thing. It's a small thing, probably doesn't matter, but when i first got into town there was this young mare that I ran into. I asked her for directions to town hall, and she leapt into the air, gasped, and ran off without a word. Like I said, it was probably nothing, but for some reason it fills me with a sense of foreboding. It makes my stomach feel tight, like the nerves I get right before a show.

Then again, that might just be the gigantic feast that the Apple Family calls dinner.

See you next time, everypony.

Allons-y!
