Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

    Conflicted Crossroads

I have an interesting dilemma with an upcoming story, and thus I turn to the Fimfic public (or that portion of it that sees these blogs) for its wisdom.

Friendship is Card Games: Feeling Pinkie Keen · 5:21pm Aug 10th, 2014

Hello, all. For my new followers, this is my thing I do on Sundays: make Magic cards out of pony episodes. I started with Season 4 and am covering the old stuff over the course of the interseasonal hiatus. It… usually comes out earlier. :twilightsheepish: If you're not interested, feel free to ignore this.

I had a whole spiel here about how badly Twilight fails at science in this episode, but you've all probably heard that before. Suffice to say, confirmation bias is an ugly thing. Also, the use of the word "believe" was a problem. Like any objectively present phenomenon, Pinkie Sense doesn't care whether someone believes in it. It happens anyway.

Still, Twilight's rage is understandable. One of blue's greatest failings is arrogance. It's too used to comprehending everything, so when faced with something it can't immediately grasp, it has two choices: analysis or dismissal. Twilight tried both (though she didn't do the former very well,) and found them wanting. In the end, she went with acceptance, backed with a healthy respect for the evidence.

On a less purplesmart note, I have to appreciate Fluttershy referring to "Dragonshy" when escaping the hydra. Also, Froggy Bottom Bog is actually a rather clever horse pun when you realize that the fleshy bottom of a horse's foot is called the frog.

Now for cards:

Itchy Back! 1W
Instant
Reveal the top card of your library. You gain life equal to twice that card's converted mana cost. If you reveal a land card this way, return Itchy Back! to its owner's hand.
"That means it's my lucky day!"
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Cartoon Violence 2W
Instant
Whenever a creature dies this turn, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next upkeep.
"Bandages fix everything."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Species Relocation 2WW
Sorcery
Exile all permanents of the creature type of your choice. Return those cards to the battlefield under their owners' control at the beginning of the next end step.
Equestria's environment must be carefully monitored and adjusted. Some adjustments are more extreme than others.

Diatribe 1UU
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature you control
At the beginning of your draw step, draw an additional card.
Whenever enchanted creature attacks, blocks, or becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice Diatribe.
Before you listen to a ranting unicorn, make sure your schedule is clear for the next week.

Achy Shoulder! 2U
Sorcery
Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. Put a 1/1 blue Crocodile creature token with islandwalk onto the battlefield for each nonland card revealed this way. If no tokens enter the battlefield this way, return Achy Shoulder! to its owner's hand. Then put the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in any order.

Transmuting Tailor 2U
Creature — Unicorn Wizard
U, T, Return an Aura you control to its owner's hand: You may put an Aura card from your hand onto the battlefield.
Ponies may not normally wear clothes, but they still take fashion very seriously.
1/2

Vacant Familiar 3U
Creature — Crocodile
If you would draw a card, you may put the bottom card of your library into your hand instead.
It is possible to be so mindless as to approach genius from the other direction.
1/1

Field Research 4UU
Sorcery
Draw cards equal to target creature's power.
"Be quiet, be cautious, and be absolutely certain that you're downwind."
—Ditzy Doo

Comic Slip B
Enchantment — Aura
Flash
Enchant creature
When enchanted creature dies, you gain life equal to its toughness.
"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an apple cellar."
—Discord

Incapacitating Pain 1B
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
Whenever enchanted creature is dealt damage, it loses all abilities until end of turn.
"Broken bones are pretty much the opposite of awesome."
—Rainbow Dash, Bearer of Loyalty

Pinchy Knee! 1B
Sorcery
Target opponent reveals his or her hand. Reveal the top card of your library. If you reveal a land card this way, return Pinchy Knee! to its owner's hand. Otherwise, choose a nonland card from that hand with converted mana cost equal to or less than that of the card you revealed. That player discards that card.

Suffocating Muck 2B
Enchantment
Whenever a creature blocks, that creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
Hold still for long enough, and the swamp itself will try to claim you.

Exultant Gloating 3B
Enchantment
At the beginning of each upkeep, if an opponent lost life last turn, you may draw a card.
Ponies are less cruel than some species, but more than they like to admit.

Tortured Logic 3BB
Sorcery
If target opponent has more cards in hand than you, that player discards cards equal to the difference.
"I like to think I'm open to other ponies' points of view, but with Pinkie, that seems less than advisable."
—Twilight Sparkle, Bearer of Magic

Explode Twice 1R
Instant
Explode Twice deals 1 damage to target creature, then deals damage to that creature equal to the damage already dealt to it this turn. (This effect counts the damage previously dealt by Explode Twice.)
Evidently, you can.

Twitchy Tail! 1R
Instant
Choose target creature. Reveal the top card of your library. Twitchy Tail! deals damage equal to the revealed card's converted mana cost to that creature. If a land card is revealed this way, return Twitchy Tail! to its owner's hand.
Pinkie Sense is a mystery, and the universe keeps it that way.

Pinkie Sense 1RR
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
Play with the top card of your library revealed.
Enchanted creature gets +X/+0 and has first strike, where X is the converted mana cost of the top card of your library.

Twilight Enraged 4RR
Legendary Creature — Unicorn
Trample, haste
Whenever Twilight Enraged attacks, discard all the cards in your hand, then draw that many cards. Twilight Enraged gets +1/+0 until end of turn for each card drawn or discarded this way.
0/4

Doozy Detection 1G
Sorcery
Look at the top six cards of your library. You may reveal a card with converted mana cost 6 or greater from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
Major events send ripples through fate like a rock dropped in a lake.

Itchy Nose! 2GG
Sorcery
Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. For each nonland card revealed this way, put a 1/1 green Insect creature with flying and deathtouch onto the battlefield. If no tokens enter the battlefield this way, return Itchy Nose! to its owner's hand. Then put the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in any order.

Froggy Bottom Hydra 5GG
Creature — Hydra
If Froggy Bottom Hydra would be destroyed, regenerate it and put a +1/+1 counter on it.
The heads all agree on only one thing: ponies are delicious.
4/4

Umbrella Hat 2
Artifact — Equipment
Prevent all noncombat damage that would be dealt to equipped creature.
Equip 2
What once defended against pegasus-directed aerial bombardments now guard against the vagaries of fate.

Inscrutable Apparatus 3
Artifact — Contraption
3, T, Tap an untapped creature you control: Draw a card.
"Yes, the colander is necessary. At least until the replacement part gets here from Canterlot."
—Twilight Sparkle, Bearer of Magic

Moving Wagon 5

"Oops."
—Ditzy Doo
2/2

Bog Breath 1(bg)
Instant
Target creature gains deathtouch until end of turn.
Hydras aren't known for their dental hygiene.

Bog Bubble 1UB
Sorcery
Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Return that creature to your hand at the beginning of the next end step. (Return it only if it's still on the battlefield.)
Some amateur necromancers struggle to pull corpses out of the earth. Some have the opposite problem.

Froggy Bottom Bog
Land
Froggy Bottom Bog enters the battlefield tapped.
When Froggy Bottom Bog enters the battlefield, you gain 1 life.
T: Add B or G to your mana pool.

Itchy Back! on an Isochron Scepter with Bob is pretty cool
Vacant Familiar is excellent with a wide variety of things
Just wan to clarify: Twilight Enraged's ability basically gives her +X/+0, where X is twice the number of cards in your hand when it starts to resolve? (in a vacuum, at least)
Enemy-color refuges need to be an actual thing

I'm rather sure "Transmuting Tailor" needs some sort of rules text dealing with whatever the Aura is attached to since Aura's have to be attached to something or they are removed from the battlefield and are normally attached to what they target when they are cast but here you're circumventing the casting and targeting of the Aura so there is nothing saying what the Aura gets attached to which would mean that the Aura would be removed the next time state based effects are checked because it would be on the battlefield not attached to anything. *Gasps* (And yes I said all of that aloud just to see if I could keep the run on sentence going. I'm channeling Pinkie at the moment wheeeeeeee!)

2358936
In a vacuum, yes. Combined with, say, Thought Reflection...

Enemy-colored refuges were some of the first pony cards I made. There will be another one next week. I too wish they actually existed.

2359219
You would be wrong. CR 303.4f:

If an Aura is entering the battlefield under a player’s control by any means other than by resolving as an Aura spell, and the effect putting it onto the battlefield doesn’t specify the object or player the Aura will enchant, that player chooses what it will enchant as the Aura enters the battlefield. The player must choose a legal object or player according to the Aura’s enchant ability and any other applicable effects.

Note that this allows Warp World to work.

Ah confirmation bias, the basis of most ignorance and zealotry.

As of adding these to my copy of all your cards, you are now at 1,023 cards and 22 tokens.

Also, I'm not 100% (it could just be colourless), but I believe you are missing the "artifact" type on Moving Wagon.

2373173
Fixed. It was originally a blue creature, "Cargo Cloud." Then I rewatched the episode and determined that, no, it's just a moving van in sky chariot form.
