Howdy, Y'all!
I'm sure a bunch o' ya are fans o' little ol' me, an' I gotta say, I'm touched, sugarcube.
Now, a couple o' people noticed that my old fangroup was gettin' kinda dusty and worn out around the edges.
Poor ol' thing ain't even got any active admins.
So, I'm pleased to direct y'all over to a brand new Applejack group. It's even got folders fer organizin' yer stories.
That's makin' ya excited, ain't it, sugarcube? 
Course, being a new group, we're gonna be in need o' lots o' stories, so I'm hopin' y'all'll help us out.
Especially stories with me in them too!

Why not just ask the admins to give control over the original Applejack group over if the admins aren't active?

That would have been preferable, but bats had no luck with that approach and the Scootabelle group, and I wasn't involved in the decision to start a new group, I just muscled my way onto the board of directors (okay, I added a bunch of fics, readied an icon and banner, and sent a polite PM, but that's the same thing, right?).
Plus, sometimes it's just better to start fresh. The old group has no folders (aside from main) and trying to relocate all those stories would have been just as much of a pain as starting from scratch anyway. The only real advantage would be the user base, but that can be rebuilt.
