Okay, so I re-watched the season 4 finale and something is gnawing at the back of my head. When Discord and Tirek captured the 5 of the mane six, Spike was also captured, and was drained of his power. We know his fire has magical properties that he can send letters via fire to Princess Celestia, so it would make sense that Tirek takes his magic from his fire breathing. As we have seen in Dragon Quest though, all other dragons appear to have fire that only burns, with no magial properties to them at all. So this begs the question. What are Spike's true origins?
Yes, Spike hatched from and egg and has many characteristics of a dragon, but is he fully dragon? Could it be that one of his parents wasn't a dragon? I know that sounds a little bizarre to have parents of two different species and all, but, I have not seen one episode that could disprove the claim that one of his parents may not a dragon at all, but some other being with magical qualities. It's not something that really crossed my mind before that I was concerned about, but now it has my curiosity and attention.
If this subject is out of your comfort zone you don't need to respond, but if your willing I would like to hear your opinions on where you think Spike's true origins come from. It always great to hear the opinions of others to see things from different angles.
I think it is clear that he is simply a different species of dragons you saw in the episode where he ran away each dragon was like an entirely different species

Yes, but one thing they seemed to share in common aside from pigheadedness, was the fact that all have fire with no magical properties. Spike may be part of a certain dragon species, but I have yet to see one dragon that has any similarities to Spike in personality and capabilities, both physical and magical. Until that can be put out, I will still speculate that Spike may not be full dragon.

A good question, little bro.
One of my theories is he is a full Dragon, but just a special species with the power to use Magic. And I don't mean he can only use it to deliver scrolls. We him in one Episode (Season 3 Episode 9: Spike at Your Service) to use his fire to bring his "Spike the Dragon code" card. Maybe with some training he can use it like the inventory from Video Game Characters. With more Training he is maybe able to use Magic like a Unicorn. And thats maybe why he has no wings. He doesnt need them beecause he can levitate himself.
Would good stuff for a FanFiction where he is tutored by Celestia to use his full potential. He could even be the son of the Dragon King how died a few hundred years ago and Spike has to learn to use his magic so he can some day take the place from his Father. But he can only do this, if he doesn't know of his origins. That's maybe way Twilight just didn't send a letter to Celestia and ask her where Spike's egg was found.
Another idea is Spike get some of Twilights magic as she used too much magic on him. And now he has a limited power of magic he can use before he has to "recharge".
An here comes theory number three: Celestia enchanted Spike so he can send letters and other things and vice versa.

2131616 It means "Dragonblood" or "Dragonborn" and describe the abilioty from a Hero in "The Elder Scrolles V: Skyrim" where the Hero has the power of Dragons. He can use his voice to do INCREDIBLE things like get invisible, invulnerable, shockwave (Like the Canterlot Voice from Luna, just more Powerful) and he can imprisone his Enemies in Ice.
I approve of this game. It's really AWESOME!

I keep trying to escape for good but it's not working, right as I am about to find a way to close the rift she gets me before I can figure out anything. Alright, my head canon. Spike is the grandson of the Dragon King, Spykoran the. 1st, who is a bit younger than Celestia and Luna. His daughter was a power dragoness Mage, and his son in law was a renowned fencing champion. Spike's parents were killed when an army of Ursa Major bandits, led by one of the dragon outlaws, stormed the town they were staying at. Spike's egg was the only survivor. Enraged and saddened, Spykoran sent his grandson's egg to Celestia for safekeeping, then when on a murderous crusade against the Ursa Majors.

2131924 Oh, and his green flame is a result of his mother's magi abilities, and Twilight casting on his egg. He has the ability, like all species, to generate magic through a foci, but in this case, he can use his breath, aswell as conjure magic from his hands, and make himself bigger (not in that way, though I'm sure he could do it to impress Rarity
), and other magical crap. Also, like all dragons, he can use the Thu'Um.

I think Spike got his powers from when twilight had a magic surge and transferred some of her energy to him.
