I’ve decided that I’m much better at writing stories than blog posts. In the beginning I planned on writing a blog post whenever I posted a new story or chapter. I’m just barely hanging onto that goal at the moment.

In short, chapter two of A String Wedding is now out in the wild for your reading pleasure. I originally planned dividing the story into four chapters, but a couple larger scenes towards the end convinced me to go with five instead. I think it’ll flow more smoothly that way.

The fifth and last chapter is almost done, meaning I’ll be able to stick to my original post schedule: a new chapter will be posted every other day.

While you’re here, how about some background details about chapter one? Very light and inconsequential spoilers lie ahead:

So, how does an earth pony wear a wedding ring? I asked myself that question again and again while drafting this story. Unicorns have it easy, but what about pegasi and earth ponies? During Hearts and Hooves Day it sure looked like Big Mac was going to buy Cheerilee a ring to put on her nonexistent unicorn horn. I know this was probably just the show bridging the gap between human wedding customs and ponies, but if it’s cannon I’d still like an explanation of some kind. I finally decided on two solutions: tying into the mane (common), or wearing it on a necklace (not so common).

Fun fact: my wife went to culinary school. She has a degree in making deserts, and countless stories about the experience. Wearing jewelry in a professional kitchen is a very dangerous thing to do. If a guest bites into the diamond ring that slipped off your finger while you were mixing batter, you’re going to be paying for their trip to the dentist, and it’s going to be a very expensive trip.
