Sometimes while I'm reading I get it in my head that I can wright better than that author.
And why does every X-in-Equestrian story have the character land in Ponyville. Just once I'd like X to be found by changelings or griffins. Have X's views be radically skewed by the other sapient population to the point where the Princesses are perceived as a very real threat.

The door between the receiving area and the court room opened. Twilight trotted inside and I closely followed her heels. I cast a casual glance ahead, my curiosity getting the better of me. When I saw her, my eyes shot wide. When Twilight had said she was going to bring me to see the princess, I assumed the princess was a unicorn like she was.
My mouth was rapidly becoming dry. I could feel perspiration forming on my coat.
My eyes flicked from the fluted spire that was her horn to the graceful curves of her wings. The princess was most definitely not a unicorn.
My pace behind Twilight slowed, then completely stopped. Far from breathless, my breathing became ragged gasps. It felt like all the air was being sucked out of the room. She was just sitting there; watching, waiting. I took a careful step back. My heart was racing, the perspiration had formed into droplets which now ran down my neck and back.
I tried to drag my tong along my lips, maybe to regain some moisture, maybe to postpone from crying out in alarm. I did the only graceful thing I could think of that would prevent my from collapsing in shock. I turned around and ran.
The shouting of Twilight Sparkle and the guards was quickly lost behind me as I made my way back to the front gate. I had to run! It didn't matter where, I just had to get away!
My mind raced, desperately thinking back all the conversations I had with Twilight and her friends. The princess being an Alicorn should have been brought up! 'Oh, by the way, our ruler is an immortal goddess who has more than enough power to reduce you to a smudge on the carpet. Don't buck anything up.' I closed my eyes, I shook my head while I continued to run.
